Title: Evo Speed Post by jcoulter on 04/11/03 at 13:06:10 I just installed the demo and it looks rather promising, however, it appears to run at a snail's pace. Loading the initial menu takes 30+ seconds, and loading a program can take almost 10 seconds. Navigating data also appears slow in the demo company, so I'm concerned about the speed on some of our monster databases. Anyone else having speed issues, or am I doing something wrong? Also, is there documentation on using the new bells and whistles? |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Mike_Habich on 04/11/03 at 13:11:02 We have it loaded on live data. Speed is OK when working, but time to load is about the same as you find...way too slow. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by aricon on 04/11/03 at 13:12:52 The speed issue is due to how the TAS programmer created the new engine that runs BOTH TAS 6 and TAS 5 programs. But they ARE working on it. Kinda going to depend on if people pony up and buy it. Development doesn't happen for free. Programmers are people and they tend to want to be paid....kinda strange, I know, but that is how is. ;) |

Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/11/03 at 13:19:48 Jon & Mike - What operating system on server and Workstations? I have it loaded on live data here, both workstation and server are WIN 2000 and the initial load of the menu after I enter username and password is less than 5 seconds. The speed lodaing the programs after the initial load is essentially instantaneous. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Mike_Habich on 04/11/03 at 13:21:31 Win 2000 pro, peer-to-peer. Haven't suppressed Pervasive splash screen yet, but will. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Tommy Johnson on 04/11/03 at 13:26:21 It does seem a little slow, I'm seeing 3-5 seconds to display a new screen on P4 1.6GHz 512GB. Most of our users have 300-400MHz Celeron PCs, so that would make it even slower on those computers. Also some screen display problems, but most are minor cosmetic issues. We are interested in the new interface, but the speed needs to be at least close to current system or users will complain. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Jon Coulter on 04/11/03 at 14:01:03 We're running Windows 2000 Server with mostly Windows 98 workstations. Most workstations are 300-500Mhz. We're running Client-Server DBA, if that makes any difference, and the splash screen is off. I actually timed a few things ... initial load after clicking "ok" on the login is right at 40 seconds. This is on a 500 Mhz machine. Loading IN-A took 15 seconds to load. AR-A took 8. A few are pretty quick, but most are in the 10-15 second range. This is from selecting the program, to once the screen has been painted. Function within a program seems ok speed wise, but I can't check out our main company and it's monster databases with the demo version. Quote:
I agree with Tommy ... we're going to be in the same boat with the speed issue. OH ... any documentation on how to use the program? |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/11/03 at 14:38:36 I just got off the phone with the programmer, he did identify something that he has changed, it took a 1:20 program load (across an extremely slow NW) down to 6 seconds. It will be posted to the web Monday, anybody want it sooner, email me direct. |

Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/11/03 at 15:25:34 Also if you look at the program group created during installation, you will see a link to tas6evodocs.pdf. This is documentation for settuing up user menus, etc. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Jon Coulter on 04/14/03 at 09:45:52 Lynn, Has the revised program been uploaded yet, fixing the speed? I just downloaded the file (approx 11:30 EST) and there is no difference in the speed. Also, as for the documentation ... the installation process did not create a Program Group. I found the doc file in our DBAMFG directory. Thanks, Jon |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/14/03 at 10:28:24 Not uploaded yet, should be within an hour or so. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/24/03 at 16:18:11 Found another culprit that can steal speed from Evo - Norton AntiVirus (and maybe other anti-virus programs as well). Had a user with up to 10 seconds to load program screens from the menu. Went into the Norton AV configuration and told the Live Scan to ignore files with RUN and RWN extension (which are the DBA program files called by the EXE) and speed is MUCH improved. Since the RUN and RWN files are not executables in their own right, it is safe to exclude them from the live scan. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by deburr on 05/09/03 at 10:33:37 It takes about twice as long for the evo programs and screens to load and paint as the DBA counterparts. Is there something wrong with my setup or is this normal? Do I need to change any settings or update anything to improve this? I am runnimg the 4-15-03 update. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 05/09/03 at 10:53:40 Have you configured your anti-virus to skip the live scan for files with RUN and RWN extensions? That is a specific known factor in the loading of the program screens. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by cophar on 12/30/03 at 12:03:14 No comments since April... Is everyone getting good speed? We are considering adding the Evo interface. |
Title: Re: Evo Speed Post by Lynn_Pantic on 12/30/03 at 19:05:42 I believe the speed issues have been resolved. The anti-virus software was a big factor for a number of users. The 30 day trial is free and if you don't like it, the old DBA icon will still work so there is really no risk! |
