Title: Changing Part Type
Post by kerric on 04/25/03 at 07:06:24

We have some fastener-type items that are currently set up as a type R.  That was done incorrectly at time of conversion.

We'd like to change those part types to N.  I will have to do a GJE to move those original receipts from our Raw Inventory to the Indirect Material Purchase Account.  Is there anything else we need to consider when doing this?   :-/

Not really, ALTHOUGH you could choose to use the replace function to change all the historical transactions in all the tables affected to reflect the N type part, but unless you have a specific reporting or other driving need for this, the effort is certainly not worth it.

Just change it in IN-B, do your journal trxn. and continue on.

Where do you find this replace part function?

What is it that you need to accomplish?

Yes, run program SM-J-C.  This program will eliminate the inventory count from the "R" type parts and change it to "0" for "N" type parts.  Also the book value, last cost and average cost will be changed to zero as "N" types do not track costs.

you might want to make sure those Items are then re-classified into an Item Class that will support those items posting into the Expense Account instead of the Inventory Asset account.
