What is the best way to find the correct file in Maintain Database?
Right now for example, I am looking for a file containing at least the following:
Item Number, Description, Vendor, and Vendor Number.

You can view and print a list of file names from the Help utility. You can print the field names in each file under UT-H. I did this once and created a binder for reference although it is a time consuming task.

The file you want in this case is MTICMSTR.bxx.

I don't think there is any one file that contains all that information. BKSBVEND is the cross reference between your part number and the Vendor part number but the Description is stored in BKICMSTR.

Check these fields:

All in MICMSTR.bxx

MTIC.PROD.CODE
MTIC.PROD.DESC
MTIC.PROD.VEND
MTIC.PROD.VNAM

Tim, those are old fields and no longer maintained by the system. They date back to when there was a limit of 3 Vendors per item. The current programs update the BKSBVEND file which can have unlimited number of vendors for a given item. So if your vendor information has not changed in a long time (3 or 4 years ago I believe is when that was changed) then you could use the MTICMSTR data but anything more recent needs to look at BKSBVEND.

Sounds like a job for a Crystal Report or MS Access query.

How is the primary Vendor designated in BKAPVEND? Does it reside in the first array element?

That is the one field still used in MTICMSTR - the vendor code for the primary Vendor.
