Title: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by cathyh on 12/18/03 at 12:09:53 We have never seen this message before, the IF EXPDT line that duplicates the EXPEDITE line in MRP requirements: MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS (MRP) Page: 1 Thursday December 18, 2003 10:30 AM Item No: 1400014 Type: R Vendor: MIRRES Desc : FLANGE,RECESS,MECHCLMP,MRD Name : MIRADA RESEARCH & MFG., I Reord Lvl: 6 Reord Amt: 25 Prod Class: VLVE Stock U/M: EA Lead Time: 20 On-Hand: 24.00 Exp Bufr: 30 Del Bufr: 30 MRP Beginning Balance: 28.00 *** Exp Sens: 0 Del Sens: 7 Date Quantity On-Hand Pegged to Order No St Date Action -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 01/01/03 -8.00 20.00 PL 4 01/02/03 -8.00 12.00 PL 3 11/13/03 -2.00 10.00 4064- 2 11/20/03 -2.00 8.00 1462- 1 11/20/03 -2.00 6.00 1462- 2 11/20/03 -2.00 4.00 1462- 3 11/20/03 -2.00 2.00 1462- 4 11/20/03 14.00 16.00 1462- 3 2159 11/10/03 (IF EXPDT) 11/25/03 -2.00 14.00 4182- 3 12/04/03 14.00 14.00 1462- 3 2159 11/10/03 EXPEDITE 12/08/03 -40.00 -26.00 PL 12 12/08/03 32.00 6.00 PL 12 BUY 11/05/03 BUY 12/09/03 -2.00 4.00 4205- 1 12/09/03 25.00 29.00 4205- 1 BUY 11/06/03 BUY 12/15/03 -2.00 27.00 4064- 3 12/17/03 -2.00 25.00 4216- 1 12/17/03 -2.00 23.00 4216- 2 12/17/03 -2.00 21.00 4216- 3 12/17/03 -2.00 19.00 4216- 4 12/22/03 -4.00 15.00 PL 2 IS this correct ? |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Tim Keating on 12/23/03 at 09:13:32 This change was made in one up DBA's last updates to the MRP module. As you can see, it is showing you what would happen if order 1462-3 was Expedited, as suggested. The running on-hand balance recalculates off this 'If-Expedited' date and the actual order below is ignored in the running balance. I suspect this was added as the requet of some user who found it helpful, but I really don't want it. Since there will be no more updates from DBA I will pay someone to take this out if I have to. Lynn? |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Lynn_Pantic on 12/23/03 at 09:34:52 I agree it makes the report confusing because it lists the order twice even though only one of them actually contributes to the on hand. I have a couple of other MRP issues on the table for early next year, I will add this to the list. I think the orders should be listed only once and the report should ask if you want them on the original date with the Expedite message (like it used to be) or on the new date with the "If Expedited" message. How does that sound? A way to please everybody? |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Tim Keating on 12/23/03 at 09:41:38 Yes! Thank you. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Cyndee Pappas on 12/23/03 at 10:05:01 Sounds good to me, too. Even better is the news that MRP is on the table for early next year. Thanks!! |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Cyndee Pappas on 12/23/03 at 10:08:43 Hey, Tim, Although I bugged DBA long and often about MRP, (with little result), this one wasn't my doing. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Lynn_Pantic on 12/23/03 at 10:19:36 Yes, Cyndee, it is your MRP stuff that is on the table for early next year! :) |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Tim Keating on 12/29/03 at 09:44:08 Lynn/Cyndee: I'll send some short but insightful comments on what I would change in MRP to both of you. This way we can get a dialog started that will help with the fixes. Thanks and Happy New Year. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Karen Mason on 12/29/03 at 11:07:58 I would like the option of shutting off the planned orders, at least for the manufactured parts. I have several releases a week on some parts. I have to cross out all the planned orders and manually add everything to see when I want to place my orders and for how much. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Tim Keating on 12/30/03 at 08:22:23 I second that. It should be an option for those who want to drive MRP with 'real' orders only. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Lynn_Pantic on 12/30/03 at 09:00:11 Not sure I understand. If a work order for a top assembly exists and a subassembly is needed, MRP needs to prompt to create the WO for the subassembly. Are you saying you want it to stop there and not explode the subassembly BOM until you make the decision to create the subassembly WO and run MRP again? So the top level planned orders would be suggested but not exploded to lower levels creating nested planned orders? |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by aricon on 12/30/03 at 09:37:35 I think that is quite reasonable Lynn. Gives those companies that produce many common subassemblies to stock the option to not generate MRP requirements for the subs, unless/until they choose to do so. For others that need to generate all the way through the BoM structure, then they would be able to do so. |
Title: Re: IF EXPDT MESSAGE IN MRP REPORT Post by Tim Keating on 12/30/03 at 12:53:01 We make individual passes through all levels. First, a Forecast that generates requirements for our top level Finished Goods. Then subsequent passes through each level down to Raw Materials. Each pass is complete when all Make/Buy messages are satisfied with real Work Orders or Purchase Orders. I can ignore something if I wish to and let the balance go negative. In our method, Planned Orders don't help. I can see their value in a single pass type of scenario. I just haven't been able to fine tune things well enough to have confidence in it. To be clear, the messages - Make, Buy, Expedite, Delay, Review, etc... will be marked and printed every time MRP is run, but planned orders will not be generated. |
