Title: Consolidating GL DEtail
Post by cathyh on 01/17/04 at 13:43:08

I am consolidating GL detail for WO transactions and am wondering if I need to reindex files afterwards and if I do which ones.  Does anyone have a procedure in place to consolidate GL transactions (which types do you consolidate?) periodically (what is your Period?) that they will share with me?  We have been using DBA actively since June 2002 and I am just starting to consolidate.  Thanks!  :)

Reindexing BKGLTRAN after consolidating will regain the disk space used by the consolidated records.

As for what to consilidate and when, I am sure many people have different opinions - just be aware that once consolidated, the detail is gone and can not be recovered except from a backup.  The consolidation replaces all the detail transactions of each account and date range specified with a single net debit and net credit transaction per month per journal type.

Thanks, Lynn, I will reindex that file.  I am only consolidating WO transactions, mainly labor, because there are so many, and so far I have only done 2002.  I am concerned about the fact that the detail disappears in the GL.  Am I correct in assuming that the WO transactions I am consolidating are detailed in the MFG module and can be reproduced there?

Yes, the JC-C and other JC Labor and overhead reports still contain the transaction level detail.
