Title: Subsid. Location Setup in DBA-Structures
Post by tdsimon on 02/05/04 at 09:38:06

Hello,
We are opening up a wholly owned sub in MX; we are discussing the options of setting up this sub as a separate company vs. simply a different location within our current 1 company structure.

Considerations are the ease/accuracy of tracking inventory, running the MRP, complying with the various governmental tax/reporting requirements, etc.

I would greatly appreciate the opinions of those more familiar with DBA.

SERIOUSLY recommend that you set up another company!!!

It depends.  If there is shared inventory, customers and vendors, a Location may be better.  If they are truly independent entities then I agree, a separate company would be better.

Where you would likely want to draw the line on whether to put the sub company as a seperate DBA company is if you want any significant separated P&L reportability, whether you need to be able to easily diferrentiate the inventory values and/or MRP requirements and if there are any differences in shipping receiving management.
