Title: PS-B System Security Levels
Post by Mike@TEK on 02/25/04 at 09:18:57

On Version 2002.4, what are the database file names that hold the Y/N/C codes that set the access for each of the seven DBA menus (manuf.,items, sales, acctg, sys mgr, payroll, payroll link).  There are approx. 1140 settings per security level, so with our nine different levels, I'm looking for the files with a lot of Y's, N's and C's....

Thanks
Mike

BKSLEVEL is the file.  Other Security info in BKSYUSER and BKSLMSTR.

Have you actually used the BKSLEVEL file to produce a spreadsheet?  I am trying to get an at-a-glance view of menu access settings per security level by importing the BKSLEVEL file.  I will need to do that on a periodic basis for auditing purposes.   However, the file is so large that it will not fit into a spreadsheet since there are 20 menus with 20 options each.  That translates quickly to 400 cells per row which Excel or Access cannot handle.  Some of the data does import.   For that data, I am not able to correctly identify which field in the ISTechSupport data map corresponds to which field on the PS-B screen.  Looking at an example in the data map, exactly what does the field BKSL.MENU1 (array 1) relate to when viewing PS-B4?  Note: I am running 2002.4 7/15/03.

That would be a pretty ambitious project if you were to take it on.

I spent a little time on it a few years ago with the aim of creating something in Crystal.  I waded through the screen layouts in the source code and it is possible to identify the fields but it would have taken a very long time.

(For instance, I know BKSL_Menu1_1 = IN-A and BKSL_Menu3_1 = SO-A)

I didn't see the return on investement so I just took screen shots for posterity and made a PDF (38 pages).

I do know that not all the fields are used because there are only 8 modules and some have as few as 1 menu x 18 sub-menus.  The biggest matrix is System Manager which is 14 x 18.

If I had the time and patience, I would do it.  Maybe a few of us could collaborate on a spreadsheet to tag the fields?

I created a spreadsheet that connects file names to menus in PS-B.  I can email it to anyone who wants it.

Next I might try a report in Crystal that prints out security settings for all users/levels.

I don't think it can be done easily done in Excel.
