Title: Adding manufacturing side of DBA
Post by RodRivero on 03/19/04 at 13:41:18

I've been using DBA for the past couple of years, but ONLY the accounting side of it. I would like to start using the manufacturing side of DBA but I don't know where to start. Some ideas?

1) Start with part numbers.
2) bills of material
3) routings

and off you go

What kind of manufacturing do you do ?

OR, you could hire someone that DOES know where and how to go and can get you through the process with the least amount of pain and time and allow you to focus on what YOU do well and make money.

Hey....I think I just described what we do..... ;D

Working with a good outside vendor to get things started up corectly is well worth it.

otherwise you could end up messing things up and its way more expensive to fix.

I recomend a training session and have someone look over the design of what you want to do.

Design <-  make a plan 1st
take time to testdrive it on the system
refine it
Go for it

Rod,
We are about to embark on the same trip---have been using DBA accounting for 3 years and  more or less custom software for production.  (sewing outdoor gear) Perhaps we should compare notes as we travel.     Rob

RobC,

A word of caution as it sounds like you work with sheet material. DBA, and quite a few other systems for that matter, have some very definite limitations and frustrations for environments that work with x/y dimension sheet material. Be sure you are aware of the limitations BEFORE you start, so it does not come up as a huge roadblock/source of discontent.

Hey Robc:
How are you doing with the implementation of DBA's manufacturing side?
I haven't done anything yet.
