It is important, at least on the final receipt or in WO-J when closing the work order, to answer Y to the wuestion about rebuilding the summarized costs from the transaction detail to be sure the closing entry nets the WO to $0 WIP.

2,  Cyndee used -rebuilding the summarized actual costs got rid of them- to zero out unwanted Xactions.

So when   and why  do you say NO  to this question about rebuilding the summarized costs?

Thanks,
Laura

When you are doing a partial quantity receipt and you don't want to make any costing changes until final receipt of total quantity into stock has been completed.

Actually, the ONLY reason not to rebuild the costs is if you are in a big hurry and your Work Order files are huge because you have never archived anything so it takes too long.  You should always say Yes, whether it is a partial or the final if you want accurate actual costs.  If you always dor Finished Production at Standard Cost (at least for partials) then it is only important for the final receipt.

I don't fully agree. I have seen the WO-J program come up with some VERY unusual costing (particularly per piece costs) when run for some variations of partial receipts. Therefore, I have found it better to put in an estimated standard cost per piece when doing partials and let the final calculation run only when the production quantity is complete.
