We had an instance where one of our operators started building a part using the wrong material (wire). I used WO-G to issue the material to the work order as scrap and when asked to add to the BOM responded yes. When the work order was finally closed and backflushed the system duplicated the material scrap issue......

Am I missing something or was I wrong in the way I handled this situation.

Yes you did something wrong. When you did the manual issue, you issued the wire once. When you then backflushed at completion you issues it again through the backflush process.

If you have backflushing turned on, you should have just manually added the wire to the WO BOM in WO-K-B (?) and then the backflushing would have issued it with all the other materials.
