Title: No commissions for Kit components Post by ldagen on 07/02/04 at 13:30:29 Has anyone noticed that DBA does not compute commissions for components of kits? DBA Tech support pleads ignorance or "huh?". Does anyone know of a fix or a way around it? My only alternative now is going back to Work Orders and creating a new type F parent part to sell. Lee |
Title: Re: No commissions for Kit components Post by Lynn Pantic on 07/02/04 at 16:13:02 In a true selling kit, the price is all on the parent item, the components have no price so there would never be a commission to calculate. There is a problem if your commission is calculated based on margin rather than sales amount because the kit parent has no COGS to use to calculate the commission. If they are manufactured components from Features & Options, it makes some sense because the invoice posting routine doesn't process them and take them from stock because the work order would have already done it. I can have my programmer take a look. In the meantime, a work around would be to have the price of the component add to the price of the parent so the upcharge for the component will increase the commissionable price of the parent. |
Title: Re: No commissions for Kit components Post by ldagen on 07/03/04 at 11:11:08 There is a problem with your logic. A zero price should not affect a commission calculation. For example, if you sold a type F or R at a zero sales price, it will accurately compute a negative commission amount. After all, in the “real world” for salespeople, their commission is impacted by the costs of inventory whether they sell something for a small margin, for a penny, or zero. However, upon further testing, I discovered that the default in SD-N, Enter Commissions at Line Item Entry must be set to Yes, in order for the commissions calculation to work for zero sales entries. This is true regardless of the Type of part sold. Then I discovered that when I highlight the component parts for the kit in the SO line items, and enter the commissions percentage at the end, the negative commission amount will be calculated when the invoice is posted. So with a little extra time for key entry, negative commissions will calculate correctly. Lee |
Title: Re: No commissions for Kit components Post by Lynn Pantic on 07/03/04 at 11:34:18 You are calculating commissions based on Gross Margin so in your case, you do need a negative commission for the Kit components or $0 sales (for whatever reason). However, many DBA users I have worked with use the commission calculation as a percent of Sales Price, not margin and in that case, the $0 sales items have no commission, positive or negative and the extra entry effort is not necessary. In any event, I am glad you found a way to make it work for you. |
