Lorne. its the exact opposite with us. Our XPpro machine will stay connected to the network if we Do NOT use it. If it sits idle all night (still on and connected to the server) we are fine in the morning. But by mid morning when we have worked in DBA or on our drive where we share word docs, then we loose network connection. You have to restart the workstaion and you will stay connected to the server....if you don' t use it much. ( and it goes unsaid I have no idea what flushing the DNS cache means).

We figured out the problem w/the machines totally cutting off. It was the backups. Even though the electricty was not going off. The Back ups would krackle and the XPpros would go totally off. We removed the backups and have had no more problems.

Yeah, I think I have an idea what is going on with the XP boxes and the domain controller with the shares. Happens when the boxes still idle for a time, I'll bet. Has to do with the fact that XP interacts differently with Active Directory (AD) on the Win2K Server. The forward and reverse lookup zones may not be set-up correctly in the DNS snap-in. Also, you may need to flushh the DNS cache.

As to the power-out thing, not sure what is going on there. Try upgrading the Pervasive to the 2000i SP4 version on the server and clean it off the clients (all of them) and then do a fresh install from the PVSW directory on the Server after it is upgraded. See if the shutdown problem goes away.

Laura,

You need someone to walk you through making sure that your Domain Controller forward look-up zones and DNS are set-up correctly and that the XP boxes are set-up correctly as far as how they get an IP. Do you not have a network support company?

Laura, did you ever resolve this problem? We have the exact problem, all XP users lose connection to the server once per day and have to reboot their workstations.

Tara,

Call a network support company and put the onus on THEM to come and fix it. That is what they are for.

we tried and tried...and that machine was only a few months old. It is sitting in the corner now.

I finally gave up and got a new one (it has XPpro also but works like a charm....just like our other XPpro workstations)

The new machine cost around $600.00. I had that much headache in the old new one!!!
