Title: Inventory Data
Post by mreaves53 on 03/08/05 at 08:52:28

I am creating a database of our inventory numbers, the description, and the product that it is connected with.  Can I import the inventory data into Access 2003.  I can then easily tie each item to it's proper product.

Thanks

You need to create an ODBC link 1st and then either link the tables in your Access DB or import them (depending if you need "live" refreshed data or just static data). Do not create an Access 03 "project". Just a blank database. Also, if you want it accesible from each workstation you need to put it on the server and make sure that each workstation that will access it has a client ODBC set-up to match the Server ODBC and then create a shortcut to the Access app on the server.

I have only been working at this company about a month and am still learning about DBA.

Which table would I import?

There are two Inventory master data files; BKICMSTR.Bxx and MTICMSTR.Bxx.  Both contain Code and Description and different fields beyond that.  You can browse them using the Maintain Database utility.

You may also want to look at BKICLOC, BKICLOCM and Serial and LOT tables depending what info you are looking to capture.
