Title: WO traveler graphics...
Post by penz on 03/16/05 at 08:13:02

Hi,
What are all the graphic types (bmp, jpg, gif, etc.) that the WO traveler can print. Can the report be modified to print a vector file such as dxf or pdf?

Thanks

Jim

Jim, to the best of my knowledge the report builder product as used in DBA will not print vector graphics.

Jim,

 The Currently supported graphic types in an EVO RTM are as follows:

        * Tiff Images (*.tif, *.tiff)
       * GFI Fax Images (*.fax)
       * SGI Images (*.bw,*.rgb,*.rgba,*.sgi)
       * Autodesk Image Files (*.cel,*.pic)
       * Truevision Images (*.tga, *.vst, *.icb, *.vda, *.win)
       * ZSoft Paintbrush Images (*.pcx,*.pcc)
       * Word 5.x Screen Capture Files (*.scr)
       * Kodak Photo-CD images (*.pcd)
       * Portable pixel/gray map images (*.ppm,*.pgm,*.pbm)
       * Dr. Halo images (*.cut, *.pal)
       * SGI Wavefront images (*.rla, *.rpf)
       * Photoshop images (*.psd, *.pdd)
       * Paintshop Pro images (*.psp)

    We are looking at a 3rd party addon that will allow us to print .xls , .doc, .pdf and .dxf files. It is just a matter of devoting the time to finish this project.

For anyone wondering DBA Classic does NOT support all of those. And of course, although Allen omitted the obvious from his post, both versions support the "standard" graphics types of .bmp, .jpg, and .gif

We are also looking to attach Microsoft Office or .pdf's type files to the RTM's (WO's, PO's, Packing slips, etc.) to support a more robust manufacturing process and to eliminate disjointed systems.

For example, we are looking to have a document print at the time of the packing slip that would describe the customer's explicit shipping instructions.  This might be several pages long.  Another example, we are looking at possibly printing our item specifications at the time we print or email a PO to a vendor.

Since we are using Word and Excel, it will be critical to our future growth that those formats are supported.  Although we have the ability to convert to .pdf format, the extra step and file storage space is not preferable.

Any way to get this subject moved up on the list?

Thanks,
Karen

..yes we're looking to do the same aslo with CAD drawings which would print out with a WO traveler.

Ask and you shall receive... PDF printing support from both Classic and EVO is now here for the traveler. It will be in this weeks post...

I am looking into a way to get EVO to print anything windows can print. ie if you right click on a file (.doc .xls . dxf .wmf .pdf....) there is a print option. In Evo I think I can access this call to windows. Not however in Classic so if you want this ability you will need to be in Evo.

It is important to understand and accept that Allen is very somber in his advice and that the fact he makes more money from more folks going to EVO has nothing to do with it......

LOL  ;D

Allen,

No matter what Lorne thinks, we appreciate your commitment to continuous improvement.

Thanks,

Evo Users..

 This weekends post has it. Travelers can now print anything that has a windows association (PDF, XLS, DXF etc..)  The WO-C can print graphic images as thumbnails and the links (pdf, xls, doc, dxf etc..) print as full pages after the travelers.

 We are currently porting this logic to 9 other programs, Estimates, PO, RFQ, Quotes, Ack, Invoices, Pack Slips, SO labels, and Inventory labels.

 Classic will only be able to link PDF's and if there is enough interest I may port that logic to the other 9 prgrams too.

Karen,

Holy crap. I was just poking a bit of fun at Allen. Loosen up a bit. Trust me, he is a big boy and can certainly take it. Actually he has a really good sense of humor. Although, there were one or 2 times he got me GOOD, before.... ;D

This might be the thing that pushes me over to EVO

Hey, John, I knew we could convince you eventually.  Now we just need to address your scheduling issues and there will never be a reason to move to NG...Let me ponder that one a bit...
