Title: multiple inventory locations
Post by apsupplies on 04/15/05 at 09:53:40

We have multiple branches and when entering a sales order how do we get the computer to look at  only the inventory in the branch where the sales order is entered?

I am assuming you mean when you are looking up QOH. If that is what you mean, you can't. DBA is not that sophisticated. Period.

I thought that was what the location field took care of.  I'm thinking about things in the future, but haven't really studied the location field.  Guess I'll have to look a lot closer before laying too many plans.

Karen,

My interpretation of what they were asking (and lord knows I can easily be wrong on how I read it), was from the ability to restrict view of information, such that branch A can ONLY see what is available to them not what is in branch B. This kind of thing is handled in the user security layer of an application and DBA is nowhere near sophisticated enough for that.

I interpret it the same way as Karen does - they want the UOH to only consider the Location of the Sales Order which DBA can certainly do.  I believe AP Supplies uses the IS Tech Feature to back order items based on On Hand quantity less prior Sales Orders and Back Orders.  I will check but I believe that already takes the Location into consideration.  If it doesn't, it should and I will make it happen.

Yes, we want DBA to only look at the quantity on hand at the location where the order is entered.  Say I am at branch A and I enter a order for 20 of an item but only have 10 on my shelf but branch B has 10 on their shelf, I want DBA to back order 10 items and force me to either put in a transfer for the 10 or order them out.

I just tested and that is what it is currently doing.  I have 10 UOH in LOC1 and 0 UOH in LOC2.  If I place an order in LOC1 for 8, it is fine.  If I place the order for 12, it backorders 2.  If I place an order for anything in LOC2, it backorders.

And what about the companies that DON'T want to be forced to do so? What if they prefer to backorder from Branch A?

Or what about being prompted to do a work order for branch A instead?

What I am getting at is that this starts down the road of "supply-demand linking". And that is a pretty large programming task.
