Title: Inventory not reflecting sales for sub components
Post by jrchilds on 06/09/05 at 13:10:26

- I have indented BOM's.
- I create and release sales orders, then post the Invoices.
- Then, I check the inventory to see if quantities have changed correctly.

Problem:
Only those items at the top level of the BOM are deducted from inventory.

I know that I should be creating work orders and issuing parts for sub assemblies, but we do not create enough of each product at a time to warrent the extra paperwork.

Question:
What I am wondering is...
Is there a way that I can have all items on an indented BOM deducted from inventory at the time the invoice is posted, rather then creating work orders and issuing materials for sub assemblies?

Any help would be appreciated.
Please let me know if something is unclear, or you need more information.

Thanks,
J.R.

Couple of options.  For single level BOMs, you could make the top level items type K (Selling Kit) and then the invoice posting will deplete inventory of all the components.  You can control the printing of documents like invoices and packing slips to suppress printing the Kit Components so the customer won't see them.

If you have multiple levels so Kits won't work, creating and processing the work orders really isn't all that much work.  Use SO-N to generate work orders and say Y to create multi-level work orders.  Then (assuming you have the IS Tech updates installed) use the WO-P Batch Finished Production with Backflushing set to Y and process all the work orders from the bottom to the top in one batch.
