We have added several new inventory locations. I need to set up our item classes and G/L accounts in the new locations. The "copy locations" button at the bottom of the page responds "under construction." Has this been fixed in newer releases, or is there a work-around? I would like to avoid manual entry as I have a ton of classes.

Unfortunately, no, DBA never finished it before they quit doing any updates and IS Tech hasn't gotten there either.

I am in the process of revamping our Item Classes. Actually a bunch of new classes. AND YES, it would be great if the COPY LOCATION was working. In any case, I'd like to change the name of current classes to allow for all my new ones. (in other words, I'd like the "part" classes to be together and the "assembly" classes to be together and so forth).

Is there an easy way to do a GLOBAL change on Item Classes? I can't seem to find a "change items class code" button.

If you know all the file names and fields you could use the find and replace utility for each name change. I have used it many times on different stuff. Very fast and ACCURATE.

Well I guess then, I need to know ALL the file names that the have ITEM CLASS.

What exactly are you trying to do? Assign a bunch or parts to a new Class? Or just create a bunch of new classes assigned to a second Location?

I need to change current item classes to a new alphanumeric system we want to use. GL accounts are the same just the Item Classes are difference.

Example:
Change PANL to 13A0
Change OEM to 13B0
Change IND to 13C0
Change FCV to 13D0

As I said before, ALL GL accounts are the same it's just the Item Class name that is changing.

UT-K-B search and replace the CLASS field in CLASS, CLASMSTR, BKICMSTR and MTICMSTR files.

Lynn... thanks for the info. i finally got around to using it.

Would like to mention tho.... i had to exit out of the screen in between each "replace" due to errors.

Was that in EVO? I found that the errors do not occur in DBA.

P.S.

I only use DBA for 3 things. Print Payroll Checks (in EVO, if you check off items that didn't print properly, it still saves them as ok). Maintain Database and Global Replace.

I didn't try in DBA.
