Title: Printing links in "Classic" Post by deburr on 02/09/06 at 10:01:46 Although I have EVO, most of us are still stick on the classic interface. Try as I may after every update, to use this new feature, I have never been able to print links out of DBA Classic. I have read the help screens but I must be missing something. The file I want to print with a traveler is a PDF. The file is not located in the DBA directory, but is connected by DBA though "global link path" in DBA. I can display the PDF file in DBA by using the little camera icon. In the image links screen, I have an "L" and a "B" respectively for the two questions at the bottom. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what I am misssing? Thanks, Steve |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by JNAPIER on 02/09/06 at 10:58:31 I don't think Classic can print linked docs? Only EVO. John |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by Betty_Musser on 02/16/06 at 12:20:39 I have returned from Phoenix and have set up a few items with links and I am having the same problem in getting the links to print with a traveler or PO. I am still in DBA Classic, but I understood that the links will work in classic. Am I too missing something? THanks, Betty M |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by Lynn Pantic on 02/16/06 at 12:46:53 The only file format that will print as a link in Classic is PDF and you need to be sure that the folder containing Adobe Reader is in the Windows Environment path on the workstation. |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by JNAPIER on 02/16/06 at 12:49:08 Check your last row of prompt boxs in the link screen. Make sure the proper doc is set to T for thumbnail. I had problems with the global path being used. Using the global path, I could see the image with the Icon button but It would not print on the doc. After I changed the link to the full path (watch the length) and stopped using the global path, works great. John |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by Lynn Pantic on 02/16/06 at 14:39:06 Can't do Thumbnail in Classic - has to be L for Link. Thumbnail is only Evo. |

Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by shadowcaster on 02/20/06 at 10:44:53 I put all my links in a DOC file these make nice containers for your documents tiff dwg screen shots or whatever else I use lots of DWG's and screen shots The Screen shots come from my CNC programing software. I also intergrate TEXT tool lists into the one doc. insert DWG's as OLE links set to manual update when you need to modify a dwg enter the part number in DBA click the camera doc opens doubble click on the dwg autocad opens the dwg make changes save them go to the DOC select the DWG picture Press f9 autocad updates your doc file save doc I like how its all linked to the DBA partnumber In addition make sure your DOC container has a header or footer with DATE Page 1 of # and file/Part Name so when you print 100 workorders with doc's you can match them up easy You can add notes as well. also the shop guys can call up the document and add notes if you let them although they never do because they all have perfect memories. I even had one guy tell me he remembered something I did on the day he was outsick. he could not remember though what he did they days he was here. anyway I think PDF's are so 1 dimensional because you cant edit them. j Dub |

Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by shadowcaster on 02/22/06 at 15:01:30 did you get the example ? J Dub |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by Karen Mason on 02/23/06 at 05:44:55 Thanks John. I got your email. I appreciate your help in getting this going. Be calling you soon. The perfect memories jab...it has been a struggle getting our work instructions recorded. The info recorded is usually unnecessary, while what we really need has been left out...they can remember until it needs run again. |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by Betty_Musser on 02/24/06 at 08:25:01 j dub Could you also send me the example that you sent Karen. We are trying to store .DWG and .TIF in a container and what you are doing sounds very interesting. Betty Musser FTS/Leesona bmusser@leesonallc.com |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" MORE LIN Post by shadowcaster on 03/07/06 at 15:04:35 Im getting the urge !! Every Item should have some kind of document that has all the available info on that item in it. Photos prints specs rateings ect I want to create a Word Doc for every item that I dont have one for already. 99.9 % of them are purchased parts First I thought just making an empty document with a header with some relevent info like page 1 of n Part Number current date so if its printed we know when it was. Now Im wondering if I I Could import some of DBA's data into the document when I create it. maybe even have it be live data can that be Done ? I have wintask to do the work MS office, Access and ODBC to do the deeds anyone got any good ideas on what else I could automatically get into these docs. Once I have them created its easier to go on line get the product info and stick it in the doc. |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by timgolds on 03/07/06 at 16:03:40 Looking at doing the same thing but still in investigation stage (Right now I'm working on my own logic for Sales quotes/QA drilldown that links to ACT, Access, DBA and Word) What about a COM form that looks at the call and based on the call, prints the vendor's part with number, Customer's part with number or company part with number? Also, If using WC, what about picture of BIN from BIN#. Also, ECO Info, Version Number, Exploding vs ISO images .... How about pictures for ITP, setup, fixturing? Just some ideas. |
Title: Re: Printing links in "Classic" Post by shadowcaster on 03/08/06 at 08:36:15 Lots of good Ideas I need to get a second computer here on my desk so I can set it up to do the wintask and access stuff Im thinking I can do most of it with access and use link import to get the links into DBA |
