Title: Snap Server and DBA Post by Marianne on 02/09/06 at 14:50:31 Does anyone have DBA installed on a snap server? We are still running DBA from our old server and want to relocate it to our relatively new snap server. Before making the switch, I thought I'd see if anyone has had any experience with this. |
Title: Re: Snap Server and DBA Post by David Waldmann on 02/13/06 at 06:34:11 Unless it's a special version, I don't believe it will work. It's purpose is storage, like an extra hard drive - you need to be able to run applications on it. If you just want to store your DBA data on it that should work fine. |
Title: Re: Snap Server and DBA Post by Tim Keating on 02/13/06 at 08:05:49 The Snap Server has some features that go beyond basic storage but is basically just extra drive space on the network with some bells and whistles. I don't believe it will run any applications beyond basic file serving, storage and backup. |
Title: Re: Snap Server and DBA Post by Marianne on 02/13/06 at 13:28:22 David and Tim - thanks for answering my question. That's what our guys thought here but they weren't 100% sure. Thanks again, you saved me a lot of time and headaches. |
Title: Re: Snap Server and DBA Post by timgolds on 03/28/06 at 13:54:54 David is correct, It is a distributed storage box. As long as the LUN you setup on the VA is dedicated to the server running Pervasive you won't have a problem. However, Dont even think about using it for clustering! Pervasive can not handle fail-over so although your data will be available from the second server, the engine will not. The best part about using a snap server isthe ability to "snapshot" a LUN just before backup. what this does is allow you to backup all data on the drive even if it's being accessed! You never miss a file becasue someone has it open! Hope it helps, Tim |
