Title: Make-From
Post by Lisa_Jones on 02/16/06 at 18:15:04

If a Make-From outside processing contains subassemblies what type (A, M, B or should the subassemblies be?

Originally the parent was also a subassembly ( we processed as work orders) and the subassemblies under that number were type B, Phantom.

We are changing the parent from a subassemby to a Makef-From.. But what should the sub-sub assemblies be. We are doing all we can to avoid doing work-orders, transfers, etc.

Hope this makes sense.

I don’t think it matters, to avoid transfers when you create the PO the system will ask where do you want the material to be pull from, what location. You should peak the location where the material is

All seems to work ok except for the subassembly Type A that we need to do work orders for. In other words, there is one subassembly that we do in house before we send everything to the outside processor. These are raw microprocessor chips that we have to program here. The Type A subassembly parts under the make-from  do not show as a negative under PO as do the other parts in the makefrom. Therefore is not showing a need for the raw parts under the Type A.

What would be the correct type to use to show demand for the raw chips and yet be able to do the work order here and still make it part of the Make-from.

We do the same here the programed chip is the M the raw chip is R

No, the A's don't show up on MRP, but interstingly enough the raw parts do show on MRP, even though nothing shows in the A screen.

We had not been using the M either, but were getting so much outside processing that we were trying to simplify things with the Make-Froms. Guess they can only be used in some cases where there are not subassemblies that require work orders. Darn.

it should work with a Bom  I would think
post the bom so i can look at it

From the help file

M = Make from: a “Make from” is an item that receives an outside  process such that it becomes a different item number than the  item without the process.  For example, a part could sit on the shelf non-plated.  Some of the parts could be sent out for plating.  When the parts come back they should have a different item number to differentiate between the plated and non-plated parts.  The “Make from” will have a bill of material consisting of the raw part(s) (in this example the non-plated part).  When a purchase order is placed for a “Make from”, upon PO receiving the program will relieve inventory of the components and will update inventory for the “Make from.”
The program calculates an actual cost consisting of the outside processing cost plus the cost of the manufactured part’s bill of material components.  The use of “
Make froms” eliminates the need for issuing work orders to handle the outside processing costing and inventory properly.
