Title: S/R Module INstructions
Post by cathyh on 02/21/06 at 13:03:58

I am getting ready to work on setting up S/R in the test company and thought I had gotten instructions in Phoenix.  Turns out I only have my NOtes-- amazing how it all makes so much sense when you are writing those notes down, but when you are home and trying to make use of them.....
Did I miss getting a handout- if not any plans on making one available?  It would be so helpful to have all of the various settings in SD-Q and things like setting up a location and the steps in creating and processing a Repair Order put together by someone who knows the way.  If not, I will just plod along on my own.
Don't know what I would do without that test company!

There was a Service/Repair section in the Symposium handout.  Maybe not as much detail as it could have had but it should be enough to get you started.  There is also a section in the Help on the Service/Repair.

I found it-  i must have looked through that booklet a dozen times and didn't see it before.
One question I have is this--  we do warranty work under a generic part number that puts costs in a warranty expense account instead of cogs.  Is there any way to have a different default cogs for different locations? I would like to see all workorders processed in the warranty location go to a different cogs than my cogs associated with sales.  But I like the idea of using the part number of the item we are working on, which right now only has one cogs.

Yes, SM-C allows for different GL Accounts per Class/Location so you can enter different accounts for the Service Location.

That's very good to know- Thanks Lynn.

PS (this probably belongs under System Manager)  I was checking out the buttons at the bottom of SM-C- copy location, mass create- and they are under construction.  Is that IS construction (it will be done) or DBA construction ( don't hold your breath)?

It has been "under construction" for a LONG time (as in since DBA was actually programming for Classic).  If there is enough interest, we can add it to our list but nobody has asked for it lately and it isn't like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to do!

I am not sure why I would need the buttons--that is, if in SM-C, I can set up GL accounts for location only and not enter any class codes, so that any transaction in that location would use those GL accounts.  Is that the way it works?

No, you need to set up each Class/Location combination separately.
