Is there a way to adjust the retained earnings balance? I'd prefer to be able to make a one-sided entry (like BB) to correct it.

If both the balance sheet and Trial Balance are in fact out of balance then you do need to make a 1 sided entry. UT-A, program EDITGL and make the entry, then UT-K-D and rebuild the affected account.
