Title: Import Work Orders
Post by kemkraft.com on 07/27/06 at 05:57:35

We set up routing and sequence numbers a while back.  Since that time, the person entering new part #'s has not been adding those sequence #'s to the new parts, which means they are also not part of any WO's.  I was able to export all current part #'s (BKICMSTR) to a CSV file, add the missing #'s (Sequence, Machine, Tool, Work Center, Routing and Operation), then import routings (DE-D) to update the parts.  This is not a problem, however, when it is time to enter labor (WO-F), we find that new WO's do not contain any sequence #'s, I get the message "This is not a valid sequence for this work order".  This seems to happen only with parts without a sequence #, I have found the DBA file containing the WO's, as well as the sequence #'s (WOROUT) and I had no problem exporting this file.  I do not see any way to import this file back into DBA.

Is there an easy way to import this file into DBA?
If not, is there an easy way to go through all WO's and/or part #'s and add these #'s?

I am hoping to eliminate the need for somebody to have to start entering labor, only to find out that a sequence # was not added.  This forces them to back out of entering labor, add a sequence #, then go back and enter labor.

As a note:  we are using DBA Classic, we use a Sequence # of 10, Routing # of 10 and Machine #, Tool # and Operation are all 1, Work Center is LABOR.  This was done to make entering the #'s easy, since we are only using this to keep track of labor.

You could always use the Global Field Replace UT-K-B You can find the file and field names with MDB. As far as an Import ? I have no Idea.

I did a global replace, that did not work, though!  Even after that, I still got the same message from DBA.
Is there any kind of easy way to do this, maybe through a script or something?
I would like to be able to add the missing numbers to all part #'s as well as all WO's with as few steps as possible.

Well with Global replace, if you don't specify a part #, it will replace that field in all the records. As long as the value is the same for all the records. NZ could write you a CUSTOM to do what you need to do i'm sure.

Yes, the value is the same for all records, I did it this way for simplicity, when it was originally set up.  I did a global replace on all files I could find that contained sequence or routing #'s, I did each field I mentioned in the beginning of this.  I go into Maintain Database and I can see the fields have the new data, after the global replace, but I still get the message.
Do I need to do some kind of re-build or something?

I am not sure who NZ is, but I am interested.

first of all, the file that DE-D imports into is the BKRTEMTR.B ( or whatever company you are using)
once you perform the DE-M transfer Files, it transfers those records to the ROUTING.B file.

ROUTING.B is the file is your main file for your Type A, F Item assemblies. it would be the same as if you were in RO-A. ( yes some of the other files are accessed, like TOOLS, and MACHINE, & WORKCTR ) but the primary file is ROUTING.

only AFTER you create a Work Order is the information for that Assembly, is the information copied from BKBMMSTR & ROUTING to the Work Oder Files, WORKORD, WOBOM, WOROUT.

so again, WOROUT is After your work order is created. if you have problems with your Routing Structure, the File you need to "Fix" is the ROUTING file.
WOLABOR is the final file your labor is posted to, and it checks against the WOROUT for a valid sequence.

it sounds like you are only creating 1 sequence per Assembly type. ( for you can't have a work order on a Type R part) and if you have multiple sequences for seperate operations, for a single Assembly, then you would not want to do a global replace. you would need to export / reimport.

if it is a single sequence / operation, then you can do a UT-K-B global replace on ROUTING file, on field MRTO.OPER and MRTO.OP.TEMP.NO
