Post by MARYWESENG on 08/08/06 at 14:54:30

We are trying to set up the features and options and would like imput from other users who have successfully implemented this function.   Any input as far as how it works would be appreciated.  Thanks  - Mary ???

We have looked at it and played with it but it won't serve us in its current configuration. The IS Tech people are (??) working on completely revamping it. You might want to check on its status before you spend too much time on the current one.

We are using F&O here for our products. It allows us to configure our samplers without having to have a separate part number for each configuration.  The features or options are created similar to BOM's.  You can enter pricing for each feature, and can have the prices roll up in the sales order.
It does not have any control logic, i.e. it can't check for illegal configurations.  Also, we write in descriptions of the selected options because our part numbers and descriptions would be cryptic to the customer, and are suppressed when we print the packing slips.
From the little I have heard about software that handles features and options, this is limited, and I am hoping that the EVO programmers will be working on improvements soon.

Just started to try using the F&O and no matter what is selected at the time the order is entered.  The Option is put on the S/O -- and no, mandatory is not selected under Feature Settings.

A Helpful Hint on BOM Set-up for options

We have been using features and options for several years.  In our old software we had the bills of material set-up for the standard configuration of the unit and our
option BOM consisted of negatives to remove the standard feature and positive to add in the option.  We copied these BOM's into DBA.  This worked until batch finished production in Work orders (WO-P).  When processing using WO-P the switched out components do not go back into inventory and the finished product is over costed.  We changed our options to all positive additions with no negative returns to inventory which is how the manual defines set-up and everything is fine.
