Title: Printing Lot Numbers on WO
Post by jduncan on 08/15/06 at 06:52:33

Does anyone know of a way to print the lot numbers for component parts on the work order for the parent parts. I have any where from 1 to 25+ component parts that go into many different parent parts and want to be able to print the lot numbers from which those component parts are to be taken on the work order for that parent part. I don't care which part of the work oorder (shop traveler or pick list) the lot number prints on just as long as it print on some piece of the paper work order. Also, was wondering if there was an easy way to set all item numbers to require lot control. I know I can go in and change each item individually to require lot control, but is there a default setting that can be changed or something so I don't have to go and set each item up one by one. Any help on this would be great. Thanks

I do not think you can modify forms in DBA Classic to add the lot number field, but you may be able to with Evo-ERP's form writing capabilities.

However, I can offer a fix to reset all your item master records to lot tracibility at one shot and then each new item master entered will have to have lot control set to "Y" as you enter it (or you can perform this update periodically if you wish).

The method I offer is by using the System Manager's Utilities File Maintenance Global Replace feature (SM-UT-K-B).  There are pro's & con's using this feature.

The pro is this allows you to update ALL your item records at once.  However, the con is this will update item types that do not utilize lot control as well (i.e. non-inventory items).  You will get an error message asking to disable the "Y" value for these items if you were to do item master maintence on them.

If you still want to continue, First, back up the company data for which you will be doing maintenance to. Using the "Global Replace" feature, display and select the "MTICMSTR.??" file for the company whose records you want to update. Then select field MTIC_PROD_LOT.  Enter value to replace"N" and replace with "Y".  This will update ALL your item master records as requiring Lot control and you will then be prompted for lot number as you receive items into inventory.  However, I am not sure how those item types not supporting Lot control will behave on receiving as purchases, work orders, or shipped against sales orders.

Hope this helps, but be careful. :D

As for adding the lot number to the Traveler or Pick List, the way the system works now, the Lot Number is not known until the material is issued so there is no way to include the information beforehand.  That's not to say we couldn't change it to have an option for pre-selecting but it would require some programming changes.

Lynn,

What if we were to issue materials using WO-G before the work order status was changed from F to R. If we did this the lot number should already be assigned to the work order and I think, and should be able to print on the work order forms. The one thing I'm not sure about is what to do about items going negative on the inventory side. Shouldn't I be able to get aroud this by using the List Components method in WO-G and having POs in place. What do you think about this and will it even work this way? If what I've said is going to work I would like to talk with you about the programming changes. Thanks for all the help Lynn.

Dennis,

Thanks for the help.

Yes, if you issue materials before the Traveler or Pick List is printed, then we would know which Lot to print and could modify the program to do that.  However, inventory management being what it is, what happens when you issue 100 units from Lot XYZ, give the guy the pick list and when he goes to pull them, there are only 73?  There may be other ways to do it whereby we can identify what you WANT them to pull and then once it is truly pulled, confirm the lots and quantities and make the actual issues.

Lynn,

That makes a good point. As far as DBA knowing what lot number(s) to print on the work order form, all we need to do here is print the lot number(s) on them so the person doing the picking know which lots to pull from and so we can have first in first out and also have trace ability on our products. Is there a way this could be done in DBA currently or is this something that would require programming. If this is something that would require programming, what needs to be done to get it started. Thanks.

This would be WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!!!  Or, to be able to print on the WO or seperate page, what lot numbers are available for the person to pick.

Currently we have people picking ingredients writing the lot # on the WO.  When we go to issue materials, we don't have the lot # available that was written down.  Usually this is due to writing down the wrong number from the box or transposing letters & numbers.

This tool would be VERY beneficial to us!!
