Title: Maintain Database
Post by NPMSTR on 09/01/06 at 10:28:36

DBA Classic 2004.1  IS Tech Update 11/18/05

Happy Friday!

Went to maintain database, the screen is "greened", not giving me access for files.

There has been some new company creation, so I UT-J'd and it locked me up on I:\file.ddf-5 during the process.

This error has been repeated.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick Manning

Are you in the old company or the new company?

Is is possible your user name has permission to access MAINTAIN DATA BASE in the old company, but not in  the new?

Laura,

I'm in the old company, never been in the new company.

see if you can Delete the DDF's that reside in the ROOT Directory of DBAMFG on the server. sounds like at the base of your I: drive.  File.ddf, Field.ddf, Index.ddf, Fielext.ddf, Comment.ddf

if you are not able to delete them, then your server's Operating system has them locked up.

After deleting those DDF's, then recreate them via UT-J. you should not have an error during creation unless you have a problem with security access on that folder. should be "Modify" type security access for users.

Error 5 is Duplicate Key. probably not the DDF but the actual Data Dctionary file.  Check UT-D for duplicates.

Thanks Lynn,

That looks promising.

In UT-D, there is a company listed twice that is GI\, this is the new company that was recently set up, however I am not operating in that company, I am operating on the PR\ company, which is in there once???

If my problem is the GI\ duplicated, how do I remove one of them?

Thanks,

Nick

if that company is a practice company, you can delete it thru UT-I. or else you will have to delete the duplicate lines while in UT-D and select each duplicate record individually and delete it.

There is only 1 additional company shown when you want to change companies, and that is the GI\ company.  It is also functional.

It looks like I will have to delete each line individually, and that sounds time consuming!

well, you could make a backup copy of the GI company. make sure no one is using it, remove PS-C access to it, then delete using UT-I.

then check in UT-D that now the GI is gone. if not, do the UT-I one more time, but hit F3 on the opening C or D field.  read and enter the GI code and proceed.

double check UT-D. the GI code should be gone.

now go delete the orginal folder.

then rebuild your DDF's UT-J

then recreate your GI company UT-I do not copy from another.

rebuild your DDF's UT-J

now copy the backup GI company over the recreated one.

beats, deleteing line by line. i know , i've been there...
