Title: Slow EVO compared to DBA
Post by maggie on 09/14/06 at 10:07:06

We have recently purchased the EVO system.  We like the e-mail capability.  We see many uses for the image links when they become stable.  I am trying to get all users to switch to EVO.  They do not want to switch because they say it is slower.  We are on a Novell server.  We use pervasive SQL 2000i (SP3).  We have turned off Symantec Antivirus for testing purposes only and that does not seem to make a significant difference.  Why would EVO be slower than DBA?

Maggie,  what version of Novell are you on?    Have you done any tuning to your server (bti.cfg file, etc.) We noticed Evo to be a tad slower on our older systems when we rolled it out, but not so much since upgrading to Netware 6.5 (and a faster server, of course).  we were previously on Netware 5.1 and 6.0 (two servers).

Maggie,

I felt the same way when I first started using EVO. It really is slower only if starting and closing each program as you use it. If you leave the programs running and find a way to stack screens so you can get to them as you need them, there doesn't seem to be any difference. The programs just take longer to load. I'm still hoping some day they find a way to have the screens cascade like they do in Classic DBA. Then I could start the five or so programs I use through the day and just leave them running. We get a lot of errors when exiting programs and this would cut down on those errors as well.

Guys,

Allen and lynn have done a lot to improve this.  Make sure you have a local drive setup in SD-Q (not a network share), then enter TAS-C and check that Set Run Path is set to that directory.

They are caching some EVO files to make things run faster.  If you are pointing to a netowrk drive, things stay slow.

Hope it helps,

Tim
