Title: Distribution of Labor
Post by David Waldmann on 10/12/06 at 12:26:40

We often have an employee (well, multiple ones, but the principle is the same for one, I think, and it's easier to follow) working on several WOs at once for different quantities of different products. For instance we make part 132 in six different woods. The process is all the same - the machines don't know any different from one to the next (except in rare circumstances).

For example, we may run the following:
200' 132Ash
200' 132Cherry
50' 132Mahogany
1500' 132Maple
100' 132Oak
300' 132Walnut

Someone told me in Nashua that DC-A/DC-C would split up the time based on how many WOs you were working on and how much product you made. Maybe it works in DC-A where you are entering completed parts at the same time, but we may have 10 sessions of logging in and out before ANY parts are completed, so we would need to use DC-C.

Is there any way built in to DBA to do what I need to do?

What we're doing right now is using a time sheet, manually adding up all the times and then manually splitting up the labor based on how much was made of each one and entering the labor as a BOM material in WO-G.

make sure that SD-H is set to allow clocking in/out on multiple jobs. also make sure that SD-B is set to divide labor by the number of jobs worked.

when that is set correctly. then when a user clocks in on the 2nd work order, the system automatically clocks out the user on the 1st work order, then reclocks them in on the 1st work order but now with the flag set for multiple jobs.

this way, the 1st work order gets all the labor up to the time the 2nd one is clocked in. after clocking in on the 2nd wo, it now sets both wo's to split the total labor time by 2.

and etc, for each new wo clocking in on.

I have no problem with the labor being divided by the number of jobs. The problem is that the labor is divided evenly among the jobs rather than proportionally based on the number of completed parts.

Say I need 1 brass washer and 99 steel ones. I clock into both WOs, make them and clock out. 50% goes to making 1 brass one and 50% to the 99 steel ones, instead of 1% and 99%.

I too would like to see it work this way.  Seems to reason that this would be more the rule than the exception in manufacturing -- I know it is with us.
