I posted this initially in the reports section only to realize after that it probably wasn't the right place.

We started to try using the Features & Options area and whether or not the Option is selected at the time the order is entered, the Option is put on the S/O -- and no, mandatory is not selected under Feature Settings.

This could be a very useful "feature" of the software, but we can't seem to keep the option off of the SO.

I am not sure what you mean. If an item is not selected, then it should not be added to the order. Is there only one possible option and you are either selecting it or not?

Yeah, that's what I figured, but whether I select check it off or not, it still shows up on the SO. Yes, there is only one Option.

Thanks for the feedback and examples, but I don't have a problem with setting up the F & O. On the contrary, it's been one of the easiest to understand and setup. Unless I've REALLY gone down the wrong path. However, I don't think so. In starting out, I have ONE item with ONE option and if doesn't matter whether I check off the option or not, it still includes the option on the SO and the acknowledgments.

Something's not right, obviously.

Feature & Option Logic was never written to work for a type K (Kit) Parent. Not that there is any reall good design reason for it, and not that we can't change it, but it is just the way it was originally written and we inherited it.

We don't actually manufacture the item on the BOM -- they are all purchased items that are put together as a kit to sell.

F item will work, as far as F & O working correctly. I am not sure if the item type matters on the financial side, or may be of consiquence on some of the reports you use.

I've only played around with F&O, but as far as I can tell they use the same logic as Kits, which we use extensively. I can't think of anything that would be affected, but if you're concerned try it in a Test Company.

I don't think it effects anything either. We don't use selling kits, Mainly F and A items. All of our F&O items are F, and it works well for us. My concern in my previous posts was whether there was some logic in the accounting modules that used the item type, or some reports that filter by type that might be effected negatively.
I am really hoping that Lynn and the rest of the programmers can come up with some improvements to F&O- it's a good thing to have if you sell/build items that have a multitude of options.

Well, it certainly seems that F & O could use some work. In it's current state, I'm not sure how well it will work for us, but I can see great potential.
