We are running a temporary sales promotion where all orders received during the next two months will receive a $5 discount per item ordered. We don't want to change the selling price of the item on the invoice. We'd rather show the regular price and show a separate "Promotional Discount" item with a unit value of $5 per item. We'd enter the quantity equal to the number of eligible items on the invoice.

Is there any way to do this?

You could create a part number as an N type and set the price as -5.00.
