Title: MRP QUESTIONS Post by bigjoe on 01/26/07 at 10:04:55 I hope someone out there has some ideas for me. In our business our order board is only 5 days for our standard product. This means if you place an order today we will ship in five business days. Doing this requires us to put in the best guesses we can for forcasts, as some of our raw materials have 12 to 14 week lead times. If I put a forcast in for March that we are going to sell 100 Widgets, and then Sales orders start to roll in for 80 Widgets, will MRP consume 80 of my forcast or will it have me build 180 Widgets? Does anyone out there deal with this short of order time and how do you handle it? We stock our most frequently bought units, this makes up about 75% of our sales, the other 25% is made to order so we have a large inventory of raw components on hand. |
Title: Re: MRP QUESTIONS Post by shadowcaster on 01/29/07 at 17:09:32 Do you use the mrp now ? what kind of reports are you getting are they clean or is it a bunch of garbage ? You can just run it and give it a try everything depends on dates and lead times along with the buffer settings. I'm guessing here but I think for shorter schedules you need to set the numbers smaller so the system will react with quicker messages to expedite or delay based on current orders. It's all in the dates. I don't use the forecast so I I'm not sure how it works other than to see how much stuff I might need to make if I get a specific order once in a while. J Dub |
