Title: Pervasive & XP Post by podell on 03/20/07 at 10:42:56 Are there instructions on how to get started with Pervasive 8 and Windows XP? I touch on Pervasive and MS Access in the past but really didn't have the time to experiment with it. Looking for updated instructions. :-[ |

I was able to install Pervasive perfectly fine on several winXP machines. I didn't do anything special either, just ran the installer. Since you mentioned Access I'm wondering what exactly it is that you want to do? |
Title: Re: Pervasive & XP Post by podell on 03/20/07 at 11:51:35 Well, problem #1 - i don't know what i'm doing... I'm thinking theres a connection that has to be made between Pervasive and DBA in order to run custom reports in Access. ODBC connection, etc. Like I said its been awhile - like 4 years that I've touched on it and can't seem to find my notes. Am I getting things mixed up? Thanks for the response. |
Title: Re: Pervasive & XP Post by kkmfg on 03/20/07 at 15:42:56 I got to thinking that you meant something like that. What you need to do is run ODBCDDF to create DDF files for each company that you want to interface with Access. You can run that program by going to UT-A (In system manager) and typing in ODBCDDF Look here: http://www.webwizguide.com/asp/tutorials/setting_up_dsn.asp for advice on setting up an ODBC link in windows. From there it should be pretty easy to use access to access the ODBC link. |

Title: Re: Pervasive & XP Post by timgolds on 03/21/07 at 06:19:34 Penny, Here's what you do. First, on the server (or machine with the dataset) make sure there is a pervasive ODBC connection under system DSN (it's under admin tools on the server amd the workstations). if it doesn't, enter EVO/DBA go to the company you want to make available through ODBC. Under system tools, UT-A and run odbcddf.run. this makes complaint DDF files for windows. In ODBC, go to System DSN and choose add. Choose Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface and finish. On the next screen, click create, enter a name make sure Bound is checked, give it the locaion of the DDF files (the directory where the company B files are when you ran odbcddf.run) and choose add. choose OK and test the connection. Write down the name of the connection. On the workstation, Open ODBC, go to the System DSN tab and click add. For the driver choose Pervasive ODBC Client Interface and finish. On the next screen enter the data source name (this is the name the workstation is going to call the connection. I reccommend makeing itthe same as the server name you created earlier.) Enter the IP address or the UNC/Domain name for the server and click Get DSN list. The connection you created on the server should now show in the pull down. Choose it and click test. If everything works, click OK. ODBC is now setup for that client. Access it the way you would any other ODBC connection. If you need it on another workstation, follow the above starting at "Write down the name of the connection" This is for Pervasive 2000 only. it's a little different in Pervasive 9.5 on the server side. Hope it helps, Tim |
Title: Re: Pervasive & XP Post by podell on 03/23/07 at 06:24:34 Tim - we set up the server and the workstation as you described. Everything tested ok until I come to using the DBA connection manager to connect to the data base. We're coming up with all sorts of errors. In reading the last paragraph of your instructions, I notice that they were for Pervasive 2000 - we're running Pervasive.SQL V8 - I'm sure that could be at least one our problems. Any suggestions? This should be so simple - yet its driving me crazy!! :-? |
