Title: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by kbuck on 04/24/07 at 13:24:37 We need to modify a packing slip template that we are not using (there are 4 templates-we use 1). Has anyone modified the packing slips in DBA before? How do we do it? Anything we should be careful of? We only need to modify one template and the mods are very simple. |
Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by cathyh on 04/24/07 at 14:14:25 Are you using DBA or Evo? YOU can't add any data fields to forms in DBA, but you can make changes in the format of fields already there or hide them, and add graphics or labels BIG DEAL-- always save your modified form while on the "Main" tab. If you save while in one of the Sub-Report tabs, the RTM is toast. Two things I usually do: When replacing a field I usually hide it rather than delete it (I stick it somewhere out of the way). If I like the results I can go back and delete it. I always save my first draft as a different name so that I can go back to the original if I mess up. Make sure the nudge tool is in the tool bar at the top-- very useful. I'm sure there are other tips but can't think of them. It's not hard once you get the hang of it. |
Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by kkmfg on 04/24/07 at 19:50:56 Is anyone else as freaked out as I am that the RTM editing program blows up if you look at it wrong? How many other areas of your life would you tolerate that? Hey, try out this Porsche but don't use the turn signals over 55MPH or the #%@^ thing will explode. And using the windshield washer while moving... you don't want to even go there! Sign me right up for that car! ;-) Seriously, is there a fix for that saving problem looming somewhere over the rainbow? |
Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by kevind on 04/25/07 at 07:01:08 Ever since I started saving .RTM's only when the left most tab at the bottom of the window was selected, I have not had any problems. |
Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by kkmfg on 04/25/07 at 07:50:01 Yes, but my point is that it's a terribly designed product that requires such things. One should not have to remember the magic steps necessary to prevent file corruption. There just flat out should be NO file corruption. Unless, of course, you pull the power cord when it's saving but even then file corruption can be avoided. kevind wrote:

Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by kevind on 04/25/07 at 12:34:48 Understood. I wasn't defending anything. Just because we have to click REPLY to add to the thread doesn't necessarily mean it is a reply to the previous post. ;) Just wanted to re-iterate ... Quote:
... since this is important to know in order to move forward with .RTM editing. |
Title: Re: Customizing DBA Packing list templates Post by Brian Snyder on 04/25/07 at 14:57:27 Cathy gave the exact advice I was going to give. Give it a try, it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. We have modified just about every form we use. Some are minor changes, some have been modified so much they look nothing like the original form. The program does have it's flaws as mentioned, but I'd rather have this than nothing at all. :) |
