Title: Standard Costs Missing..
Post by gtladmin on 06/20/07 at 11:21:57

It's our "Month" for issues apparently..... :(

We are seeing some parts when viewed in IN-A that no longer show standard cost.  If you go in and do a cost roll-up, then the standard costs shows back up in IN-A.  So far, it's been a handful of parts we've come across where this is an issue.

Any ideas???

Ummm.....

We are STILL seeing this as a problem. Has there been anyone else noticing this problem?  We still
cannot determine why it happens.

Well, I backed up and reindexed both the mticmstr and bkicmstr files (recommended by Lori C.).  Neither of these files had any errors previously, and I had just reindexed them a few months prior on a recommendation to another issue we were having.  That didn't seem to clear up that issue, and I'm not sure if it did anything this time.  I have purchasing monitoring the standard costs to see if it shows up again.

Uh, ok, well, I just got an update and it's this:  people are entering some parts, adding BOM's, but never rolling up the cost under IN-B.  Then when purchasing runs a roll-up utility under BM-G, it doesn't pick those up because there's nothing in the materials field.  Hmmmm...once again, user error on our part.  BUT I'm told this CAN'T possibly be the situation in ALL cases of this happening.......

(ow, my head hurts from banging it on the wall....)

there has also been a long continueing problem you should be aware, such that IN-L-A sometimes will Not save the rolled up costs even after you have done the roll-up and save. again, i emphasize sometimes.

IN-L-A typically saves for only the level of assembly you are running, it does not save any changes at the lower level, yet it does correctly take those changes into account.

BM-G will save the rollup at ALL levels provided you do finish the printing at least to the screen.

Thanks, Dave.  I will pass that along!

This is STILL an issue.  Is anyone seeing the same thing?  I've asked both Accounting and Purchasing to run some reports to see if we can find some correlation between parts, since it's not on all parts.  We do know that everyone is using BM-G and not IN-L-A, but that has not fixed the problem.  We can find about 200 parts that do not have standard costs now.

Ok, here's what accounting/purchasing came up with after doing some reporting/testing:

We have found that when a cost rollup is done for only Labor Parts, the standard costs for other parts disappears. Likewise when a cost rollup is done for Finished, Assembly & Make From Parts, the standard costs for Labor Parts disappears. On 17Oct07 a cost rollup done for Finished Parts was done & we found after invoicing was done that some of our Labor Parts did not have COGS associated with their peferencing invoices. We researched this & found that the "standard cost" was missing from all Labor Parts. We further noted that the only Labor invoices to have COGS had Labor Parts which had a "last  cost"; apparently the COGS was pulled from the "last cost" because the "standard cost" was missing. Roll up testing was done the next day in the "Test Company" which showed that any time a rollup was done excluding a part type, the "standard costs" would disappear from the excluded parts. We found that we must include all parts in every rollup that is done. It seems to be dangerous to have a choice to do each type if it will end up messing up the rest of the "standard costs" when done separately.

So how about that?

Sounds ugly, I will check into it.

I can't duplicate but I am using the very latest patch from www.istechsupport.com/status.php.  If you are not, download it and let me know if it solves it for you.

Well, we can try that.  But we've been having this problem since June of this year, and it was not mentioned or fixed in any of the patches applied since then, so I'm not optimistic, but we'll give it a whirl sometime this week when I have time to stay late and do it.

I have also had problems with standard costs missing.  I usually discover them at the end of the month.  I did however find one thing that seems to be at least partially causing the probelm.  When I run BM-G to roll up cost - when I do the print to screen, it get as far as it can then I get the following message:

70047 not found in the Bill of Materials file.  This process cannot be completed  [OK]

Everything that was beyond that and didn't print to screen now has zero cost.

We do not have a 70047 part number and I don't know where to go in maintain database to clear the information that is telling the system that it should be in the BOM file.

We are on EVO with all the updates

oopsie, we won't be doing the update yet.  I see a few issues, particularly with binloc, that would be a huge problem for us.  So until I see some resolution on that, no update.  Someone else want to try updating, let me know if it fixes this disappearing cost issue.

We had this same problem last week.  We would run cost roll ups, and the process would snag on p/n 2608, giving us the "This process cannot be completed" error.  We found that our standard costs for any item after that number were missing; costs before that number were fine.

The missing part # also manifests itself in IN-F; The report pops up an error for that p/n, "Unable to find the MTICMSTR record for part 2608.  This part will be exluded from this report."

We confirmed that the p/n does not exist in MTICMSTR, so I ran SM-J-C (Transaction Level), which has added the p/n back - the report tells us that "MTICMSTR record for this Part was missing; created it."  I still need to check back with Accounting after they run another cost rollup to see if it's really fixed.

Can the problem be reproduced by deleting a p/n from MTICMSTR and then running a cost rollup?  This seems like a bug; at the very least, we should be able to get through the whole rollup without having our standard costs wiped out.

There are a couple of related posts on missing part numbers, namely:

OMG
I just ran BM-G complete to report printing no problem
Then when it went to print it got caught up on part #48 - We have ~ 4K part numbers
so all the rest of our 3952 part now have zero standard costing....and the message is
"029048 was not found in MICMSTR.  This process cannot be completed"

Use Maintain Database to add the part to MTICMSTR, then go to IN-B and bring it up and save it.  Also in Maintain Database, check the number of records in both BKICMSTR and MTICMSTR and makre sure they match.  Then try BM-G again.

Hi Lynn
I added the part back into the BKICMSTR - then I check to see that both files had the same # of lines
they both had 11939.  The I ran the report again.  This time while in print mode it got locked up on a new part.  This new part was missing, I added it back into BKICMSTR but this time MTICMSTR had 11940 lines - one line more.  I ran BM-G thinking it will spit out another missing number.
This time it completed and everything has a cost.

So MTICMSTR had one more line than BKICMSTR and it completed the task - I should be happy but
Is that normal?
