Title: Type O Optioins Post by LJ on 08/16/07 at 14:00:25 We are setting up BOMs for a new product. We want to use the features Option. The features themselves are items that require an assembly. What is the best way to set these up? Create on part# for the sub-assembly of the feature (type A) and a parent # with the subassembly s the BOM (type O)? Just want to make sure there isn't an easier way. |
Title: Re: Type O Options Post by Vman on 08/17/07 at 06:25:29 That's pretty much how we do it here. We have a type O item for each feature/option, with the subassemblies underneath that. The end-item is a type F, with all of the type O items underneath it. You have to make sure that anyone entering a F/O item understands the hierarchy, as there is no logic to prevent you from creating an illegal configuration, and the item description fields are small, so it can be difficult for some one not familiar with the subassemblies to choose the wrong thing. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins Post by Lynn_Pantic on 08/17/07 at 08:20:07 If you still have the 99 Manufacturing Answer company installed, look at the BOM for the P/N 1000 Desk and all its options and subassemblies as an example. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins Post by LJ on 08/17/07 at 11:06:49 Thank you , I do have the 99 and that is very helpful- learn something new everyday! I am not clear yet on what the hierarchy problems might be- could you give an example of a problem. In the 1000 Desk sample it shows several different hierarchies so just want to make sure I am not missing something. We would most likely have: F A O A But may have other configurations, so just want to make sure we set it up correctly. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins Post by Lynn_Pantic on 08/17/07 at 17:55:51 The top level F has to have O in its BOM because the order entry process only looks at that first level to start the process. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins new question Post by LJ on 08/23/07 at 15:13:35 Is it possible to choose more than one option in a list of options? i.e. Part 1400 type O has 4 choices. All or any combination can be chosen or not. Can they be under type O or do you have to make separate Type Os for each choice in order to have them all. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins Post by LJ on 08/24/07 at 11:55:30 In reading my last posting I realize it is confusing. Here is the real question: If you have a Type O Feature and under that you have 4 options all type As. Is it possible to choose all of the Type A options if you want them. If so, how do you set it up as I cannot make it work. I am probably missing something here, but any help appreicated. |
Title: Re: Type O Optioins Post by shadowcaster on 08/27/07 at 05:43:14 [size=6]you need to add 1 more layer for parallel selection to do this you need to add 4 type O items with the A's under them that way you can select several of them if you wish.
