Title: SM-J-B Free Disk Space Message
Post by awaretec on 10/30/07 at 09:26:32

I need to run SM-J-B, but the message about making sure I have enough disk space concerns me - I need almost a gig of free disk space, which I have on the D: partition (where DBA is), but not on the C: partition (my root drive).  Where does the free space need to be?

This is somewhat unrelated but I must say:

You should never, ever, ever have less than 1GB free on any drive at any time unless that drive is under, say, 6GB. Otherwise you are asking for trouble. File systems are designed to require a bit of breathing room. At less than 1GB free on any reasonably recent drive you are going to be fragmenting worse than throwing the drive in a wood chipper. Your performance will suffer. Though... not as bad as if you did throw it in a wood chipper.

Duly chastised :).  But, in my defense, I am running NT4 with a 2GB root drive, 600MB free space.

Anyhow, I think I answered my own question because our test server has only 800MB free space on C: and SM-J-B ran fine after telling me it needed 996000KB free space.  D:'s loaded with free space, so that's where it must be needed.
