Title: Moving to Vista and Pervasive PSQL10
Post by Chris Clark on 05/08/08 at 08:58:12

I run a small business with a single seat of EVO/DBA.  The business has shrunk to just me over the past few years and I never really took the time to move away from DBA, even though I don't use most of it's features.  Anyway, a shiny new PC running Vista is sitting in front of me and I'm trying to migrate EVO/DBA to it.  Here's what I've done so far, all in one evening.

- Downloaded and installed latest Pervasive.
- Copied DBAMFG folder to the new machine (c:\dbamfg)
- Same for ISTS folder
- Ran GATEWAY.EXE, took a few tries and finally worked when I "ran as administrator"
- Ran EVOerp.exe as administrator and my everything worked.....company data was visible.

Since that original session I can't get things to run again.  I keep getting error:
" Access Violation at address xxxxxxxx in module evoerp.exe "
On second try a message saying that TAS is already running appears instead.
I suspect that DBA is not connecting to Pervasive properly but not sure.
I have verified that Pervasive SQL has is started, as a service.
The Pervasive log file shows resources being allocated.
Tried running Gateway.exe again....no change.

Don't know what to do next.

What you might try is this:

Delete the ISTS folder (if you had any custom settings you will loose them)
Then rerun EvoERPSetup from the DBAMFG folder (You need to run 'As Administrator')

Now try running Evo. Does it work now? Evo works fine on the Vista machines we've got here. And I don't even use Pervasive 10.

Ah, yes!  The fun of learning a new OS.  Vista was stubborn when it came to deleting the ISTS folder.  I had to rename the extentions on the .dll and .exe files, reboot, then delete to make them go away.

Now evoerpsetup.exe isn't being allowed to create a new ISTS folder.  I get an error saying it can't write to the TAS .ini file.  The folder never gets created, even though the app states that it's about to do so.

And people say the Linux is confusing.....

Did you run EvoERPSetup.exe as Administrator? If you did not then it won't be able to write any files into the ISTS folder. Vista is a huge pain in the rear.

Not that linux would be much different. As a rule you'd have to be admin to install things system wide in linux too.

You don't want to be running EvoERPSETUP.EXE.  You need to just run EVOERP.EXE (As Administratoir) to create the C:\ISTS folder and copy the files over.  EvoERPSETUP.EXE is what the TAS-C calls and it expects the files in C:\ISTS to already be there.

Oops... Sorry about the wrong info... It's been a while since I had to do that.
