Title: security code in menu access
Post by cathyh on 05/28/08 at 11:25:59

Is this option available?  I can't seem to get anything for the only one I have tried to copy, "Power User".
I would like to find out what menu items are in each of the security codes.

Wasn't there something from the last class on this?  I seem to remember there was....will have to check.

Val,

I looked at my handout and yes it was mentioned with the same letter codes that are listed in the help file.

However, I tried assigning one of my users the "P" code for power user to see what is available, and there was no menu at all.  I had deleted her current menu, added "P" to her user name in PS-A, and then logged in as her, and she had no menu.  (This was done in my test system, which has the latest update)

I also tried listing the menu access programs for "Power user" in PS-E and there were no programs listed.

I just rechecked what is happening on my test machine and with the user deleted from the menu access list and assigned the "P" security code, when I log in as that user, I get the message that the menu items haven't been set up yet and I need to run WBKMENUSETUP.RWN.  Then Evo closes.  If I do that and try to copy a menu from "POWER USER" I get nothing in her menu, and still can't log in as that user.

Sounds like your Power User menu is corrupted.  If the user has no menu with their name defined in PS-G and are designated as "P" in PS-A then they should load the Power User menu.  Can you edit Power User in PS-G?

I can't edit the power user menu because it does not seem to be there.  Maybe I never loaded them?  I have the admin menu though.  Just not the other default menus.

Isn't there an issue with loading the new default menus when you have established menus for users that you don't want deleted?  Now that I think about it, I seem to remember making the decision not to redo my menus to include the defaults because of that.

You can create a Power User menu and copy from ADMIN and then take out whatever you don't want the power user to have.

I guess I was assuming that when updates happen, your default menus (power user, user, sales 1, etc) would be updated automatically like the admin is.  I already have several stock menus set up in this way (edit the admin menu) but they do not update with newer programs automatically.  I can resort to the method suggested in another thread of using the "change program" button, to get this done but I was hoping for a simpler solution.

Updating automatically would be a bad thing for us, and probably for many other users. Changes to functions or steps in Evo require notification, testing and incorporation into formal or informal work instructions.
