Title: Linked Documents on printing
Post by fdiala on 08/26/08 at 09:34:10

I am having trouble printing liked documents on the traveler. On evo- nothing prints out. On DBA classic, after i close the travler the screen of "Print Linked Files: MFG-L-I shows but nothing prints!!
Even when I go straight to the option print linked files on both Evo and DBA classic, nothing prints out!

Did I miss any parameter set up?

Please advise,

Thanks, Diala

The document you are trying to print... 1 is it associated with the traveler, 2 can it print in windows.. can you right click on that file in windows explorer and have it print? Evo uses windows file associations to print and if windows does not know how to print it then Evo won't either.

1- the document is linked to the part in the "link" field.
2- yes it opens and prints in windows. its a pdf document.

We want to have all the workinstructions in a pdf controled documents. so when revisions are changed. we only change the document itself. (replace it) instead of going into each routing and changing the instructions there. but for some reason its not printing.

ok are you using inventory links or Evo links?

do you have the printing set for the Traveler to L and B (L for Link and B for both parent or component)
in the printing section of either of the links?

I have the link entered throught IN-B in the links tab
Printing is set to T ( image thumbnail) and to B (Both) for the traveler's section.

PS: What do u mean "inventory links or Evo links" Whats the difference?

Thanks you

If it is a PDF of work instructions, it should be set to print as L for Link, not T for Thumbnail.  If you go to Links in the IN-A screen, does the PDF open when you are on the associated part number, confirming hte path and file name are correct?

Yes, when I click on the link it opens from IN-A. the path is correct.

I changed the set to print to "L", it is still printing from IN-A and now it also prints from WO-L-J Print linked documents
but still not from the traveller itself.!!
Any other parameter I should be looking at?

Thanks Lynn

Anybody else has the same problem?? Its really frustrating. We are in the process of implementing the routing.. and we want do not want to give the users too many steps to do. We want the Work instructions and drawing to print with the routing!!

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Are you sure you are using the correct rtm's? I'm not sure which you should be using with classic because I use EVO. But I have had this problem before because of the wrong rtm being used. Just a thought.

We are using the March 08 update of EVO. We have found that if we preview the traveler before printing, the linked document will not print. If we simply print the traveler without previewing it, the linked document prints.

Also, in Classic, you need to be sure that the path to Adobe Reader is in your environment path because Classic is hardcoded to call Adobe for printing PDFs rather than using the Windows file associations like Evo does.
