Title: Shop Traveler Quirk
Post by RPCAdmin on 10/28/08 at 06:30:57

We sometimes print shop travelers that are missing items on the bill of materials section of the traveler. (missing from the WO Bill of material)  When this occurs, if you do a BOM availability, the parts show up as being available, but do not get allocated.  Any clues??  :-?

If the parts are not on the WOBOM then they should not be allocated, correct. Why they are not being copied into the WOBOM is the question. Or perhaps previous to that, are they being removed from the WOBOM by use of WO-K-B, and/or were they on the BOM at the time that the Work Order was created (since the Work Order Bill of Materials (WOBOM) is a snapshot of the BOM at the time that the Work Order is made.)

No, they were definitely not removed by WO-K-B and the BOM has been in the system for months.  This seems to happen sometimes, and we are at a bit of a loss to explain why.

We have the same problem.  It happens at least once each week and everything looks OK.  I can not see anything missing.

The problem is that for some reason the BOM components are not all being copied into the WO Bom when the WO is created.  How do you create Work Orders?  Reindexing the BKBMMSTR may help.

I can try the reindex and see if the same item has problems with a new WO.

As for how - we go into WO-A, hit enter till we get to the part number, then enter till the quantity and then enter the rest of the way.  (I think)

OK, you use WO-A as opposed to SO-N or MRP.  That is really what I was getting at.  Which program generates the WO.

Yep - we use WO-A.  Haven't had a chance to try it again since the re-index - but then it only happened occasionally on certain BOM's.

I tried reindexing a problem work order last night and it did not help.  I still do not get all the BOM components.  We have had this happen about 4 times in the last week, but not on every one and I can't find a pattern.  We also use WO-A.

Carol,

After you reindexed, did your create a new work order for that part number?  I think that once a work order is created, it is a snap-shot of the status of things WHEN it was created - so I don't think it will fix a workorder/traveler that is already in the system.

Yes - We closed the old WO and made a new one and all components came through OK.  This seems to be the process.  A WO will leave off a lot of components but when we close it and make a new WO, everything seems to come out OK.

Uh-Oh - Looks like a very intermittent problem - those have to be Lynn and Allen's favorites.   :D
