Title: Tags for PI-A / PI-C Post by gtladmin on 09/15/09 at 07:51:36 We do daily cycle counting instead of annual physical inventories so we don't actually have a need to use tags. After Walter does PI-A to freeze the inventory for the specific cycle count he does PI-C Enter Tag Counts and has to manually enter everything for each item. This is very cumbersum, considering he's using the printed inventory list from PI-A to do this. Is there any way to have the records somehow automatically created so that he can just edit the record with the change for the UOH? He's tired of having to enter everything for each item they count, it's taking too much time. Val |
Title: Re: Tags for PI-A / PI-C Post by Vman on 09/15/09 at 10:03:38 You can enter tag counts from a comma delimited or fixed length ASCII file. This is how we do our annual inventories here. We See the EVO help file for more info. We create a spread sheet from the frozen inventory report, enter counts in it, then convert it to a CSV file and then import it. |

I took a looksie at the help file but I don't see any specifics with regard to importing the edited spreadsheet--from which module do you do this, how to do, etc. Do you know the file(s) it touches for the import? |
Title: Re: Tags for PI-A / PI-C Post by gtladmin on 09/18/09 at 10:12:49 oops, never mind, I spoke too soon. Did more digging and I found it. When you print to a a file to save as a .csv, when you import it what are the delimiters you specify? |
Title: Re: Tags for PI-A / PI-C Post by dameng on 09/18/09 at 10:45:09 When you use PI-C and after you select the PI year/qtr, there is a button on the lower left for "import". click on that button and you are presented with the import tag count screen. first thing is the path to the csv file. i tend to place mine on the local machine i.e. C:\TEMP\PI200701.CSV so i don't have a path to server issue. next is skip or replace, i choose "R" for replace, especially for 1st imports, if you are doing multiple imports for the same yr/qtr then use "S" for skip. next is comma delimited or fixed length, since i've created my tag counts in an EXCEL sheet and SAVED it as a Comma Delimited File, aka .CSV, i choose "C" you dont have to worry about your delimiters to specify here. that would have been done at the time of saving if you want to change it from the standard " and , (quote comma ) which excel does by default. you only run into problems if your spreadsheet has embedded in the Item number the use of single quotes, ' commas , or regular quotes " which you should remove prior to saving your excel spreadsheet as a CSV file. that way you wont have too many deliimiters. back to the import screen, enter thru the count date, set the proper year / qtr for the tag count, you must have data records for the Tag Number, Location, Item code, and optionally the Count Quantity. i set up my spreadsheet to have those columns, in the same order as the import, since you are going to specify the column number 1,2,3 etc, rather than A,B,C. when the import processes, if an Item code doesn't match up with the frozen inventory, then it will list it in the exceptions report, which you will want to print the hard copy. hope this helps. |
