Title: INVENTORY VALUE VS GL
Post by Dawn on 02/12/10 at 09:09:32

I have been noticing something very odd.  When I run inventory value report for today's date and compare it to the GL for today's date they match.  When I do a look backwards say 2/1/10 and compare both for the same date, the two they are extremely different.  I've noticed that before and I just can't figure it out.  How would that correct itself?  I already made sure to post everything.  Is it possible something is not filtering correctly when I look at a past date?  Which information do I trust?  We have a huge amount of inventory so going thru them one is out of the question.

Do you use average costing?  I have seen differences, although not extreme, because the average cost has changed and although the value report for a past date calculated the number on hand at that date, the cost that is used is the average cost today which may be different.

I use average costing.  My differences seem to be extreme lately- last 3-6 months.  But again if I do month end vale at month end, its within reason.  The differnece shows up in raw inventory not finished goods.

When I compare the average costs between say today and 2/1/10.  They are the same which I guess makes sense since they are using today's average cost.  I did not keep a print out of 2/1/10 actually ran on 2/1/10 to compare.

Did something change in updates maybe?  Because I know there were many times in the past (say last year) that I did not look at month end inventory at actual month end but later into the next month and didn't have big differences.  There has always been some difference just not hug like now. However I will note that our inventory levels this year have increased a great deal compared to last year.

Hmmmmm. :question
