Title: replacing work station Post by Laura Oliver on 04/04/12 at 09:01:48 I would like to replace a DBA workstation. Right now all our (8) workstations are XP or 98. How much trouble is it to switch to VISTAS or Seven? Would a VISTA or Seven station be compatible with my old Server? Microsoft Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 X86 Family 6 model 7 Stepping 3 AT/AT Compatible 261.676 KB (side note) One day I know I am going to have to change my old server. But I love it. It has run flawless for years. Thanks Laura |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Laura Oliver on 04/04/12 at 09:02:58 also ...could my DBA version be a problem with VISTA or 7 ? { version 2004.1 w/8-2008 ISTECH update } |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Kelloggs on 04/04/12 at 09:13:53 Don't upgrade to Vista. It is a dead operating system. Move all workstations to Windows 7. Evo works fine. Yes, Windows 7 is compatible with your Windows 2000 Server :-X Kelloggs |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Laura Oliver on 04/04/12 at 09:34:02 Thanks, Do I need windows 7 professional or could I use 7 home or 7 premium? |

Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Kelloggs on 04/04/12 at 09:48:27 Are you buying new computers? Or just upgrading the operating system? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor 8-) Kelloggs |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/04/12 at 09:59:21 There are other issues to consider. Windows 7 isn't supported on the old Pervasive but Pervasive 11 (current edition) can't be loaded to Win 2000 server. I know some people have been able to load Pervasive 2000 on Windows 7 but others have had problems and if there are problems, you are pout of luck because it is not a supported version anymore. |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Kelloggs on 04/04/12 at 10:38:28 Actually you can use pervasive 11 client to connect to pervasive 2000 But it is not supported by Pervasive http://cs.pervasive.com/forums/t/14531.aspx :-[ Here is my post on Pervasivehttp://cs.pervasive.com/forums/t/14555.aspx :P |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Laura Oliver on 04/04/12 at 11:41:32 So Lynn and Kellog, Do you think it would be better to go with VISTA pro? I really dont want to upgrade pervasives....yet ... I could just stick with XP Pro Kelloggs, I will buy a new computer. |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Kelloggs on 04/04/12 at 12:39:43 DONT BUY VISTA!!!!!!! If you buy a new pc with windows 7, you can downgrade it to Windows XP >:( Kelloggs |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by GasGiant on 04/04/12 at 13:18:20 If you're just talking about the workstation, the 2000i client works fine on Win7, so long as you right click and install as admin. |
Title: Re: replacing work station Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/05/12 at 08:08:51 If you can get the 2000i client to load on the Win 7 machine, go ahead but I recommend don't EVER mix different versions of Pervasive on the same network. We have found MAJOR issues in cases where a 2000i server had a combination of 2000i and PSQL 8 clients. |
