Title: Removed Bins keep reappearing!
Post by gtladmin on 09/27/13 at 12:24:24

Hi, Walter reports to me a problem we need help with:

"EVO continues to bring back bins that we have removed, with the access we have for removing them.  This is a time consuming effort trying to keep the records straight in EVO with mysterious locations, mysterious part number add, mysterious cost. I spent they day Thursday and Friday cleaning up locations and lot numbers, eliminating again, M1, M2 and M3 and NA, today they all re-appeared.  Please find out what we may be doing wrong with BIN and Location and Lot# control."

Anyone know why this would be occurring?   A long time ago there were issues with SM-J-C bringing back deleted locations.  Could SM-J-C being causing this?  Just a thought, I've no idea myself here.  Need some help/ideas for Walter.

Thanks!

Val

Do you use warehouse control or have it turned on ?

Yes it is on and yes we have been using it for a few years now.

Walter uses WC-A to delete these bins, but in a few days they come back!  It must be something
being done somehow that triggers this.  It is tiresome and we are having difficulty determining
what exactly is the cause.

Can it be something with SM-J-C?  What about invoicing?

When he deletes the bins using WC-A, where are they being deleted from (files)?  Should I go into
those files and see if there are any of those bins listed?

Could it be some inventory management thing being done that brings these bins back?

Is there another step after Walter removes the bins in WC-A that needs to be done?

There was a problem some time ago where locations that had been deleted would be recreated when SM-J-C was ran.  We have not updated for a long time, but I was under the impression that had been fixed.  I don't use  warehouse controls so I don't have bins set up.

Val,

You are 3 years behind, we have likely fixed it but you will need to get current.

We have been talking about doing that. but I need to get a list of all programs that are
GUI only (no classic views) and all the Java programs as well. I need to inform everyone
of these specific changes.

And you said that I could jump from where we are now directly to the new version?  Even with
our old Pervasive version?

Yes, you can jump from where you are to the current version.  The Pervasive version is only an issue as relates to Windows versions.  DBA/EVO will work on any of them.

As for the new versions of programs, you don't have to change the menu calls if people like the old programs.  Create a new menu for yourself that is a copy of ADMIN so you have all the new ones and then phase people in gradually.

Ok, so until I can do the upgrade (have to get a new server and OS), I have to continue to troubleshoot this issue. Some questions I have:

1) Is the master bin file called isbnmstr?
2) Is it OK to edit this file and remove invalid bin numbers? We have about 45 that should not be in there.
3) What is the isbinloc table?
4) What is the pibinloc table?  I know it has to do with the PI module, but I need to know more since many of the records in here show all the invalid bin locations we keep removing time and again from inventory records.   Also the date fields in the records are pretty old, going back 2007, 2008 and a few records form 2009.  Nothing more recent.  Why was this table created? and it seems as if our daily cycle counting somehow getting data from this table when the inventory is frozen? (I assume this because the modified date on this table coincides with the time inventory is frozen for the cycle counting.) Can I just rename this table or remove it without breaking anything?

If the table in #4 is not the culprit, then  in a table somewhere are old/invalid bins that should be removed.   We are thinking if we are able to remove those invalid bins from the right table(s) this problem will hopefully stop.

Thanks in advance,

Val
