Title: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 10/30/13 at 15:47:05 We run dba classic on a peer to peer network, with dba program loaded on a stand-alone machine. The program performs OK when I first start it, but within about an hour it starts to slow every time I access a list, such as IN-A, SO-A, etc. By the end of the day I hit IN-A and I have a blank screen for about 30 seconds before it loads. No one else is having this problem. I have killed unnecessary start up routines, ran a registry fixer, and scanned for viruses. No change. Any ideas? |

Only one has performance issues? I dont get it. When DBA slowdowns as the day progresses. It is because the Pervasive Engine (ntdbsmgr) needs more memory or its memory settings need to be adjust. http://cs.pervasive.com/forums/p/15005/52497.aspx#52497 :) Kelloggs |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 10/31/13 at 07:22:32 Kellogs, There are 2 heavy users and 2 occasional users besides myself using dba on this peer to peer network. I am the only one having these issues. Given that, I'm not sure the discussion in the link you provided will apply to me. Thanks, Wayne |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by Kelloggs on 10/31/13 at 07:59:25 The idea still relevant for a workstation. You should monitor your w3dbsmgr (Task Manager) If your dba slow downs, the pervasive engine does not have enough memory and has to relay on the page file. :D Kelloggs |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 10/31/13 at 08:21:12 OK, I put dba and task manager windows up side by side and clicked on IN-A. During the 18 seconds it took for the inventory screen to come up, w3dbsmgr started at 15,052k and never changed during the process. |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by Kelloggs on 10/31/13 at 09:38:05 The w3dbsmgr will not change, if it got as far as it can get. it will not decrease either, unless you reboot your computer. I did some testing the highest we got was 11,100K On a machine with 8GB of memory with the pervasive cache allocation of 64 MB and memory usage of 60 I assume that pervasive is installed as a service right? This is what I would do. I would remove pervasive, run a register cleaner, reboot the pc and install it again with all the service packs. It will take you no more than 15 minutes. It might help :-[ Kelloggs |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 10/31/13 at 09:54:07 And you are referring to just my PC, not the dba box, right? |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by Kelloggs on 10/31/13 at 10:01:53 Yes, assuming that your machine is just a "client" by the way what pervasive are you using?? we had some issues and after the services packs we saw a increase in speed but beware both the server "dba box" and the client should have the same pervasive version and service packs!! ;) Kelloggs |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 10/31/13 at 11:22:43 We are using Pervasive 11, workgroup version. We had to go with that when the dba box was replaced with a Win 7 machine. All the workstations have that version installed. I'm not aware of any updates since it was installed. Mine reads Pervasive 11.20, 11.20.015.000. |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by sunmfg on 11/05/13 at 08:38:58 Kellogs, I tried to uninstall Pervasive so I could reinstall it, but pervasive is not showing in my add/remove programs list. It shows up in the other workstations, but not mine. Maybe that is a sypmton of my problem? How do I do a clean uninstall if it is not listed in add/remove? |
Title: Re: DBA Classic slow to pull up screens Post by Kelloggs on 11/05/13 at 09:07:12 Yeah that is a problem!!! Quote:
But if removing it from the register does not fix the problem. You will have to reinstall your entire Windows. I would contact http://www.goldstarsoftware.com/ if I were you or post a question on the Pervasive Forum http://cs.pervasive.com/forums/ :-/ Kelloggs |
