We have a scenario where we have an Install team that will take our parts and install them at a customer's location. When we get all the parts together, we place them in a temp location where they will sit with the SO until the install team takes them to the site to complete the job.
The problem that we have is that some of the orders/inventory will sit for multiple weeks/months until they can schedule and complete the install.
While we are waiting, our UoH is always overstated (I know that it shows up on Units on SO but that is harder to track what has not been started vs. pulled) leading to misunderstandings about what we actually have in the warehouse.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and knows of a feature/process in DBA that already manages this or has a work around that can reserve/flag the parts so that it is obvious they are already allocated.

You could make that Temp Location a Segregated location. You would do that in IN-L-A. If you make a segregated location. It can have its own stock on hand but it will not be included in the on hand you see in IN-A or the on work order or any of those calculations because its no long production inventory. You would then in IN-A need to go into locations to see what you have on hand for that location. Play with that in your Test company and see if that would work for you. You would also need to make Sure that your invoices and such pull from that location for those Jobs which im sure you do now.

Thanks for the reply...I was referring to a physical "temp location" within our warehouse not a Location within DBA but I like this thought...more questions about this...
1)After we setup a new Location in DBA called INSTALL.
2) Do we need to manually move the inventory items on a sales order from the DEFAULT over to the new INSTALL location to remove them out of the IN-A view or is there another way?
3) Finally then we just need to change the Location field on the SO to show INSTALL vs. DEFAULT

1) Set up the part and location in IN-L-B.

2) Transfer the inventory to the new location manually using IN-L-J. Or have a WO when finished put those items into that new Location.

3) Yes change the Location field on the SO and or SO line to the new location so when you Print and Post that invoice it will pull those items from that new location.

I suggest you create a test company and copy it from you live company then test this out in that test company and to get a feel for it first.
