Title: Evolution Demo
Post by Lynn_Pantic on 04/04/03 at 11:10:57

The demo installs a file TASPRO6.INI in the DBAMFG directory which includes the full path to DBAMFG from the workstation it was installed from.  You can use Notepad to edit the file and remove the drive letter to make it a generic path that will apply to all users for the demo.  There are 3 lines that contain the path:
DATADICT Path
DEFAULT Path
DfltRunPrg

A licensed version will have a slightly different configuration as each user will have a local INI file because it also stores screen resolution and colors, email address, and other user specific information.

Click Unzip on the first screen, then when the install routine starts and asks for the path, point it to DBAMFG on the server (it will suggest C:\DBAMFG, you need to change it).

I installed Evo from at the server. When i started it by clicking the Evo icon, I got a User name/Password request. We don't use passswords, so what do I do? If I set up a user name & password, will all users have to use them from now on? (that's not a problem)

Thanks, can't wait to try it. Also, how do we go about buying it?

If it asking for a username and password, you must have one set up in DBA.  If you have only one set up, standard DBA doesn't ask but this one will.  Go into your regular DBA and go to PS-A to see what it is.

As for how to buy, just send me an email confirming your DBA Serial Number and number of licenses you have.

Hello Everyone! I was wondering if someone could tell me what to delete to get rid of the demo copy on my computer. What are the file names? I believe one is demodata!? Thanks for your help.

The TAS6Evo program group has an uninstall.  Just run that.  But it doesn't change anything in the basic DBA so it won't make any difference if you just leave it there.

I'm attempting to try the demo, but got an error message after downloading and installing which wont let me into it.   "File error: old fileloc.b (oldloc.b) wont open properly.Conversion cannot proceed" I found the fileloc.b file but cant find a oldloc.b, we recently updated to 2002.4 and system seems to be running ok. :-/

Did you install into your DBAMFG folder on top of the existing DBA?  That is where it needs to be installed.  Double check your drive maps and paths, this is the message you get if you install to an empty folder.

Trying to install Evo.  I get to 65% and start receiving error messages:

Could not copy c:\windows\temp\thunder setup\o.tmp to h:\\bkmenusu.dbf.

If I tell it to go on, the next one is ...\1.tmp to h:\\bkmenusu.dbt.

I eventually have to cancel.

I am extracting to my dba folder on my server.

What do I do to correct this problem?

Thanks

Karen,

Do you have at least "power user" (preferably administrator) security privledges on the folder you are trying to copy the files to?

Yes, I have administrator rights to server.  I am currently logged onto it also, if that makes a difference.

I downloaded the file a 2nd time-directly to the server but I still get the same problem.

Server is NT4 and the workstations are Windows 98.

It is really interesting that the path in the error is H:\\... (with 2 slashes).  When you had the problem on the server itself, did you get errors copying to C:\\ (with 2 slashes)?

I agree Lynn.

The doudle slash would indicate it is trying to use a UNC path, rather than a mapped path.

It is almost like windows is having  some sort of problem with your "h" drive mapping or something.

Hmmmm.... ???

Well, you know, I know enough to be dangerous...

When I tried direct from the server, dba is still comes up in the  "h" drive when I selected it.  I could try C and see what happens.  I'll make sure it was double slashes

...that's right, I am a danger to myself.  On the 2nd download, I actually downloaded to the server, but tried to install remotely from my workstation.

I went to the server just now, and installed using "c".  It worked perfectly.  Not sure why workstation is having problems.  I'll try to get into the program tomorrow morning and also get it to operate on a workstation.

Thanks for your help Lorne and Lynn.

Karen

I would suggest NOT using the drive mapping when installing directly on the server.  Use it when you are logged in from a client.

If you are on the server, use the ACTUAL drive.  I have experienced problems with this before myself.

Lorne,
See my previous note-I edited it and you may not have seen the response.

Thanks for your help Lynn & Lorne
