Title: Random blank pages
Post by fredh on 05/02/03 at 07:28:35

When we print reports on our wide carriage dot matrix printers we get random page feeds during the printout.

Has anyone else seen this? DBA hasn't been able to figure this one out. :(

I've had this problem too with several laser printers.  I'd always just blamed it on the printers or the printer drivers but apparently it must be a software issue.

Fred -

Are you seeing this with EVO as well as basic DBA?  They address the Windows printer drivers differently.

Yes. It's happening in both. DBA told us that the problem would resolve itself when they went to the Windows version...SQL Version...Ezijobs.  :-/

Personally,  I doubt that this issue will ever really go away.  :P

It is very much a hardware driver issue.   As long as we have reports printing with fonts that expect a page to be a given length and printers who calculate page lenght differently this will occur.

Particularly as the problem is very much a factor of what you set the form length to be vs the margins you select.  As long as the character height is not exactly divisible by the lenght of the page between the margins that you specify there will be random blank pages.   Worse things happen in life.

I hope that's not true.  :(

We didn't have this problem prior to the 2002 releases. DBA said they didn't change anything; but nothing else was changed in our system when the problem began.

The printers do have up to date Windows drivers. We're still hopeful that TAS6 Evolution will become what we've been dreaming about.
