Title: "New Topics" not accurate
Post by David Waldmann on 10/16/03 at 08:28:26

Since the transfer to the new server:
After viewing, say, all the topics in DBA-Sales, and there are no more posts that say "New", when I go back to the main forum index, the icon still shows the "Unread Messages" status (folder with Blue Star).

I have to click "Mark ALL post as read" on the main forum page to get them to go away.

Yeah, she knows.

As long as it's not just me.

BTW, as claimed, the "Notify of replies to this topic" DOES work!  ;D ;D

I will believe you about notifications working.  Now, my question is how do you deactivate notifications??

It says on the Notification screen to CHECK the items you wish to DEACTIVATE.  I checked all but one of them, click UPDATE NOTIFICATIONS, and they all still come up.

Anybody know why??

You can check in, but you can't check out....

OK. After a bit of experimenting here's what I find. There are some that can't be removed from the "Notifications" screen. I was able to get rid of a bunch, but the rest - about a dozen - won't go away.

However, IF you can find the original post and click the "Notify of replies"  link at the bottom, then click "Yes" deactivate notification, it will be gone. BUT there's no easy way to find the original post. In fact, I believe that some of them may be ones that were from before the first re-structuring, as I just couldn't find them anywhere.

EDIT:
I've got it down to six that I can't get rid of, because I can't find them.

Thanks David, that worked perfectly.

I even went as far as to copy the thread id numbers from the source of the notification screen and then submit the same link that clicking the NO submits to try and remove the threads that have been lost.  No luck.

I'm stuck with 1 thread that I can not remove.  Did we have a loss of some threads??

Is this still broken, or is it just me? If it's fixed, what do I need to do to make mine work?

No, it is still broken. I guess Lynn has decided that it isn't worth fixing.

This has been bugging me because I thought I was losing it...(which may still be true ;)). I finally realized that I am seeing two different behaviors. On the Headers where there is only 1 subheader (Windows & Network Issues and Pervasive SQL) the star does change from blue to gray when the topics have been read. On the remainder of the subheaders, no change. Must use "Mark all topics as read" to change them. It's always nice to confirm that at least a little sanity remains. Have a good one.  ;D

Absolutely accurate.

Yeah - great!

All seem to work except "News".  Hey, Lynn, is this just to tease us with the idea that there "might" be news? ;)

To be perfectly honest, I didn't do anything so whatever is "fixed" fixed itself.   :o
