Title: REV level on BM-B
Post by jwalden on 12/18/03 at 12:17:20

We are now adding a note to all our BOMs that lists the current revision and revision date.

But in addition to being able to disable the notes and not showing this information,  it also is an extra step as part of the revision process to update the rev in both IN-B and BM-A (to update the note).

It sure would be handy if the revision was part of the header in the BM-B text report.

Any ideas or alternate ways we're missing?

This gets tricky because in some situations, item Rev equals BOM Rev but in others the BOM can have more revisions (substitute components that accomplish the same end result) than the actual item so they are not the same.  I agree that better revision control for both the item and BOM is needed - suggestions welcome.

I would suggest the following:

Make the BoM rev level the primary, and have an option come up when entering a new BoM rev level that would ask if you wish to make the item rev level equal to that or different, then chain to IN-B and if same was chosen populate the field in IN-B with the value from BM-A. If different was chosen, then place the entry cursor in the rev level field in IN-B ready for entry of a different part number rev level.

On the traveler and pick list, as well as on the BoM print-out, add both fields.

That should make the majority happy.
